American University invites nominations and applications for the position of Associate Vice President of Human Resources and CHRO.
 
Chartered by an Act of Congress in 1893, American University is a private, student-centered research institution located on a 90-acre campus in a residential neighborhood only a few miles from downtown Washington, DC. AU is home to seven prestigious schools and colleges: the College of Arts and Sciences, School of Public Affairs, Washington College of Law, Kogod School of Business, School of International Service, School of Communication, and School of Education—that draw upon the extraordinary cultural, scientific, public affairs, legal, business, international, and communications resources in the greater metropolitan area of Washington, DC. Recognized for its emphasis on personalized teaching and experiential education, AU’s community is deeply connected to the institutions and culture of the nation’s capital.
 
Reporting to the Vice President for Administration and Chief Administrative Officer, the AVP/CHRO leads a high-functioning team and holds executive responsibility for the design, development, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of the comprehensive human resources programs and strategies for the University, allowing AU to deliver an outstanding employee experience grounded in best practices. The AVP/CHRO will manage a team of 57 and a direct budget of $6.7 million, with responsibility for helping to manage the university’s budget for compensation and benefits of over $380 million.
 
American University seeks a service-driven leader with proven excellence in developing and executing strategies for HR, including, but not limited to, recruiting, onboarding, professional development, performance management, retention and engagement, HR compliance, diversity and inclusion, labor relations, and benefits and compensation.
