Postdoctoral Fellow Position in Host-Pathogen Interactions: A
postdoctoral fellow position funded by the Department of Pediatrics in the
laboratory of Amali Samarasinghe, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Pulmonology
Division, University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Memphis, TN, is
immediately available for a highly motivated candidate.
Our primary research goal is to determine host-pathogen
interactions in during respiratory infections that occur in hosts that have
underlying allergic asthma using both mouse model systems and in vitro /ex
vivo techniques. The objective of the postdoctoral fellow is to determine
the role of eosinophils in allergic asthma during pneumococcal infections. The
laboratory is situated in the Children’s Foundation Research Institute of Le
Bonheur Children’s Hospital and offers the advantage of working closely with
clinical faculty.
Qualifications
Qualifications
A recent Ph.D. in immunology, virology, or related discipline is
required. A strong theoretical knowledge in immunology, especially pertaining
to the lung and competency in techniques involved in basic immunology,
virology, microbiology, and molecular biology is expected. Willingness to work
with mice is required, and prior experience with mouse handling is preferred.
Candidates must have at least one first author publication in a peer-reviewed
journal and high level of proficiency in written and spoken English.
