Job Description
Position Summary:
The Brennan School of Business at Dominican University is seeking a part-time Adjunct Faculty Member to teach Accounting 102 – Managerial Accounting in the Summer 2024 semester. Accounting 102 is an 8-week graduate course (July 1st – August 12th) and a required course for all business majors. The course will be taught online in an asynchronous format; however, the ideal candidate will be based in the Chicagoland area to work with students periodically in a face-to-face environment as the need arises. The adjunct faculty member may work with senior accounting faculty to examine current teaching materials, cases, and software specific to this course.
Course Description:
This course builds upon financial accounting and introduces students to managerial concepts and problems. Students learn how managers use accounting to make decisions concerning day-to-day operations. Topics in this course emphasize cost determination and decision-making. Prerequisites(s): Accounting 101
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of a Master’s degree in Accounting, or a PhD with an emphasis in accounting
- Licensed or registered CPA, CMA
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least 5 years of business-related work experience in accounting
- At least 2 years of demonstrated teaching experience (experience with Canvas Learning Management System preferred)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Access to personal technology and the ability to teach virtually (asynchronously or synchronously)
Responsibilities:
Adjunct faculty are responsible for the following:
- Adhering to the university policies, procedures, and university calendar with respect to reporting information to university offices
- Administering student evaluation, timely and accurate submission of required paperwork related to instruction, including grades and course evaluations
- Grading weekly assignments, responding to student emails and phone calls promptly and providing feedback in a timely manner.
- Preparing course materials, including writing test questions and delivering assignments appropriate to subject matter
- Meeting with students in-person or on Zoom and hosting office hours
- Adhering to the goals and objectives of the course, including delivery of assessments to the Department Chair and senior faculty in accounting
