Position Summary and Primary Responsibilities:
The Department of Surgery is recruiting for a Human Resources & Credentialing Coordinator. In partnership with the HR Administrator, this role will be responsible for University staff, postdoctoral and wage employee HR activities to include recruitment, onboarding, offboarding, and mid-cycle HR transactions. This position will respond to benefits inquiries, manage leave requests, as well as complete data entry and HR administrative support work. This position will ensure all departmental providers are credentialed and licensed through the completion of full credentialing as well as provider enrollment with VCUHS Medical Staff Services. This team member will serve as a resource to other leaders and staff as needed, helping to solve problems, distribute information and share expertise.

Typical Duties:

Personnel Administration (55%)
Provide basic information and consultation to department staff on pay practices and hiring policies
Oversee daily HR Operations, addressing and resolving routine HR matters, and escalating more complex and unprecedented matters to the HR Administrator
Support recruitment/hiring process. Coordinate new hire onboarding and offboarding for separating university employees.
Manage recruitment, onboarding and offboarding for hourly workers, work-study and postdoc positions
Utilize HR systems to process accurate and timely HR transactions; routinely review Banner reporting to ensure accuracy of actions submitted.
Serve as a resource for general HR questions related to VCU benefits, leave, timekeeping and HR policies.
Assist in HR training initiatives and special projects as needed.
Under the direction of the HR Administrator, provide support to faculty and staff regarding leave requests and questions. Process required FMLA paperwork and documentation, etc.
Serves as a resource to other leaders and staff as needed. Help to solve problems, distribute information and share expertise.
Assist and back-up the HR Administrator as required

Credentialing (35%)
Manage hospital and managed care credentialing process and licensing for Physicians, Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants within the Department of Surgery.
Coordinate submission of changes to clinical privilege profiles for adding new or changed privileges.
Coordinate timely submission to the STATIT Web system to ensure compliance with OPPE (Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation) and FPPE (Focus Professional Practice Evaluation), for all credentialed providers
Coordinate submission of Privilege Profiles packet amendments for Physicians, Nurse Practitioners/Physician Assistants and tracks through approval
Coordinate submission of clinical billing and enrollment registrations and any needed changes

Other Duties as Assigned (10%)
Own and manage projects on behalf of the Department as required
Other duties as assigned by department leadership
Provide fiscal support as required

Minimum Hiring Standards:
  • Associate’s degree with 3 or more years of professional experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to interpret and explain policies and procedures
  • Exceptional communication, problem solving, organizational, interpersonal, and proofreading skills
  • Demonstrated positive service-oriented customer service skills, along with the ability to prioritize work, handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines is required
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative but maintain timely and appropriate communication with a variety of stakeholders
  • Ability to collect and analyze data and draw sound, reliable conclusions
  • Demonstrates the ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality when handling sensitive employee information
  • Demonstrates the ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively in a large complex organization
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU


Preferred Hiring Standards
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Previous experience supporting leave administration and/or serving as a timekeeper Experience with Banner, eJobs or other Human Resources Information Systems
