The Director will provide the leadership associated with the operations and growth of Zeigler Business Consulting and Venture Capital (ZBCVC) in the Zeigler College of Business (ZCOB) at Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania (CU), and Workforce Development Initiatives. The primary duty of the director is to provide outreach and procurement of clientele in the business community in Pennsylvania, coordinating with faculty and students to provide experiential learning opportunities for our students at the Bloomsburg, Lock Haven, and Mansfield campuses. The Director will be instrumental in assisting the Dean and Associate Dean in implementing a dynamic strategic plan to expand and guide all consulting and venture capital activities. The Director will also be instrumental in working with the Director of Workforce Development to align non-credit-bearing courses with workforce needs in Pennsylvania. The Director works with the Foundation, Alumni & Professional Development, local chambers of commerce and business organizations to develop a network of local, regional and national organization partners. Strong capacities for relationship building, travel and evening and weekend work are essential to this position.

 

Description of Duties:

Organize, coordinate, execute, and manage activities of Zeigler Business Consulting, Venture Capital, and Small Business Workforce Development, on all campuses of Commonwealth University (Bloomsburg, Lock Haven, Mansfield) and will include:

· Make strategic recommendations to the Dean on how to best procure and implement consulting and venture opportunities in the College.

· Foster strong, collaborative relationships with faculty to involve with consulting activities and attainment of students to assist as part of experiential learning.

· Coordinate with Advancement and Alumni & Professional Engagement to develop strategies to develop robust corporate engagement.

· Develop and maintain relationships with business community in Pennsylvania, including presentations at regional chambers of commerce around Pennsylvania and other business-related organizations.

· Maintain relationship with the Commonwealth University Workforce Development initiatives to provide guidance on course development for non-credit-bearing courses.

· Work with faculty to develop research streams in family and small business to enhance knowledge of the industry in Pennsylvania and beyond.

· Collaborate with Alumni and Professional engagement to foster relationships with alumni and those organizations who hire our students to enhance exposure of the consulting program.

· Steward alumni and donors through personal interaction and written reports of ZBCVC activities.

· Supervise and facilitate consulting and venture capital engagement.

· Work with alumni and business community to procure additional donors to enhance venture capital funding.

 

Increase visibility of ZBC internally and externally:

· Create, develop, implement and manage promotional marketing strategies and plans, include short- and long-term strategic planning and social media to advance the mission of ZBC.

· Research, write, edit, interpret and synthesize data and information to provide statistical data and craft annual reports, proposals, web pages/content, briefing materials, presentations, talking points and marketing messages for dissemination to on and off campus stakeholders.

 

Develop a long-range plan to build on capacity and impact of the ZBCVC

· Assisting the Dean and Associate Dean in creating a five-year ZBCVC strategic plan with tactical goals, operating plans and budget.

· Assess current practices and recommend best-practices based on research, benchmarking a literature review to improve ZBCVC activities. Facilitates concerns as appropriate.

 

Decision-making:

Exercise sound judgement in decision-making and making necessary decisions related to the areas of responsibility in a timely and responsive manner. For example:

· Independently make program-related decisions, including topics and content of various programs. Consult Dean, alumni, students, ZCOB Advisory Board and other stakeholders as needed.

· Develop and create programs with community organizations to enhance exposure of ZBCVC.

· Create and direct a mentoring program consisting of faculty, alumni, business professionals and other relevant stakeholders

· Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to determine content of ZBCVC web site.

· Set priorities for all aspects of ZBCVC.

· Utilize data from assessment to continually improve efforts; inform Dean of outcomes, successes and recommended areas of improvement.

 

Fiscal Responsibility:

· Shares responsibility of budget development of ZBCVC with Dean.

· Administers ZBCVC with efficient and effective use of resources.

 

Qualifications:

· Bachelor degree required in business or related discipline from an accredited university; Master’s Degree preferred.

· Minimum of five years’ experience in a management/supervisory capacity in business, with expertise and/or university experience relevant to professional development and associated strategic planning.

· Ability to evaluate and report outcomes, requirements and standards.

· Clear understanding of the challenges of business organizational needs.

· Conduct and interpret research relevant to business operations.

· Demonstrated understanding of emerging business trends affecting BSBA- and MBA-level careers.
