Essential Job Duties

The primary purpose of this Postdoctoral Research Scholar position will be to work on a new generation of ocean models augmented with AI, as part of the NSF AI2ES program. The scientific goal of this project is to improve ocean predictions by reducing errors at the air-sea-land interface using machine learning (ML) models.

The successful candidate will work with Dr. Ruoying He and his AI2ES collaborators. We are looking for candidates interested in exploring at least one of the following ideas:

  • applying AI/ML model to resolve and predict key ocean circulation processes, such as ocean eddies.
  • applying ML methods to better assess ocean observations, ocean model output, and extremes.
  • developing methodology and applications of AI/ML in ocean model data assimilation.

The position, available immediately, is a full-time appointment initially for one year, with the possibility of renewal for up to 3 years, subject to satisfactory performance and available funding.

Dr. He and the Postdoctoral Research Scholar will meet regularly to discuss research and other aspects of professional development, including, but not limited to, teaching, mentorship, outreach, service, and career plans. Also, under the guidance of Dr. He, the Postdoctoral Research Scholar will be expected to disseminate research results through presentations at meetings, prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed journal publication, and interact with other researchers and graduate students in Dr. He’s research group.
