Position:
An innovative and growing non-profit is seeking an entrepreneurial and creative executive director to drive the expansion of our mission. This self-starting and energetic leader will build upon a successful foundation to guide our future direction and growth. The successful candidate will work with the board to lead the organization to meet its goals and vision.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Fundraising:
Oversee and maintain a strong and successful team to meet budgeted goals and objectives.
Create and implement a strategic, annual fund development plan that includes current and prospective donor cultivation, solicitations, and recognition for individuals, corporations, and foundations, while growing the development team so it may sustain a multi-million-dollar annual budget.
Develop relationships and meet with major donors.
Ensure the development team manages fundraising database and tracking systems including individual donors; grants and contract administration; special events and other development functions.
- Community and Public Relations:
Assure the organization and its mission, programs, products and services are consistently presented in a strong and positive image to relevant stakeholders.
Oversee the creation of an annual marketing plan that creates powerful and compelling written and oral communications that present a consistently strong and positive image to the community.
Maintain relationships with individuals and organizations that are identified as vital to the success of fundraising operations.
- Financial, Tax, Risk and Facilities Management:
Present the annual operating and capital budget for board approval.
Manage personnel and expenses to meet budget.
Prudently manage the organization’s resources according to laws and regulations.
- Human Resource Management:
Participate in identifying the number and types of positions within the organization that are needed to achieve goals.
Ensure the growth, development, and performance of the team.
Effectively manage the human resources of the organization according to authorized personnel policies and procedures.
- Strategic Planning:
Lead the development and implementation of strategic plans that align with the organization's mission, values, goals, and objectives.
Identify trends, opportunities, risks, and threats in the organization's external environment, as well as assessing internal capabilities and resources.
Collaborate with key stakeholders, such as Board members, Trustees, and donors to facilitate strategic decision-making processes and ensure alignment across the organization.
Generate actionable recommendations for strategic initiatives, projects, and investments.
Track and report on the progress of strategic initiatives and evaluate their effectiveness against predefined metrics and benchmarks.
Communicate strategic priorities, goals, and progress to various stakeholders, including board members, trustees, and staff, and the public.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
- Proven Management Skills: Has shown the ability to build an effective team. Has held a team accountable through goal setting and performance management. Has translated strategic planning into measurable performance.
- Entrepreneurial Spirit: Takes initiative and actively seeks to deepen current donor relationships and to forge new ones.
- Communicator: Skilled in creating powerful, compelling written and oral materials. Experience and credibility when presenting materials to external audiences.
- Influencer: Motivates team to work as one creating a favorable outcome and ensuring positive relationships with key stakeholders.
- Collaborator: Works with others to reach common goals and objectives.
- Relationship builder: Skilled at establishing and cultivating strong relationships with peers, across different levels of the organization and externally.
- Experience:
Track record in raising significant resources for non-profit organizations, including demonstrating the ability to fund raise directly.
A history with the greater philanthropic community is required.
Prior experience in executive leadership positions within non-profit organizations, including roles such as Executive Director, CEO, or senior management positions.
Experience working with and reporting to a board of directors, including governance structures, board development, and fostering productive relationships with board members.
A passion for the organization's mission and a commitment to advancing its cause, coupled with the ability to inspire and motivate others towards shared goals.
Minimum of five years in a senior management position, ideally in a non-profit setting. For-profit backgrounds will also be considered.
Bachelor’s degree required; Masters preferred.
