MAJOR FUNCTION:
Adjunct faculty provide instruction and service in support of college policies and procedures, along with participation in professional development opportunities. This position will specifically provide asynchronous online and synchronous online courses within the discipline of English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) for TCC’s bachelor degree programs.
 
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Master's degree (Doctorate preferred) in Applied Linguistics, Bilingual Education, ESOL/TESOL. Or a master's degree in elementary education, early childhood education, educational curriculum development, and/or field related to education and instruction plus 18 graduate semester hours in ESOL/TESOL.
  • Must hold a valid Florida Professional Educator Certification(s) (Not endorsements) in one or more of the following: Elementary Education (K-6), Reading (K-12), English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), Exceptional Student Education (K-12), and/or Reading (K-12).
 
In addition to the minimum qualifications listed for this position, all prospective adjunct faculty are expected to demonstrate the following:

  • Commitment to development and assessment of student learning.
  • Use of technology and innovative approaches to enhance teaching and learning, including distance learning and alternative delivery systems.
  • Willingness to support a diverse population of learners inside and beyond the classroom.
  • Ability to work in a participatory and collegial setting.
 
Applicants should also have these basic knowledge, skills and abilities:
  • Extensive knowledge of the subject area(s) in which the individual is responsible for instruction.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of effective communication and of effective instruction.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the characteristics and challenges of community college students.
  • Knowledge and understanding of principles of curriculum development.
  • Computer literacy and ability to navigate in a Windows environment.
  • Knowledge and ability to use and navigate the Canvas Learning Management System.
  • Must be engaging and focused on student success; the ability to interact with students in a group and one-on-one situations is expected.
  • The ability to meet classroom deadlines (i.e. attendance, grading) and work with students on their response to assignments in a timely manner.
  • Facilitate classroom discussion and evaluate student performance in a timely manner with timely feedback.
  • Adhere to course guidelines and outcomes.
  • Maintain records of student attendance, involvement and progress.
  • Be responsive and have frequent communication with students, colleagues and supervisors.
