Executive Director / Downeast Community Partners / Ellsworth, Maine
Downeast Community Partners, a CAP agency serving Washington and Hancock counties, is seeking an Executive Director to lead the organization in providing services in support of its mission to reduce the causes and conditions of poverty. With an organizational budget of about $12M and over 150 employees, DCP provides programming for early childhood education, elder services, housing and transportation, and a variety of community services.
Requirements of the Executive Director:
· You bring a passion for promoting economic opportunities for all and addressing the issues that create barriers to opportunity. You understand and will advocate for the populations we serve.
· You have led an organization in meeting its goals, have developed a strong, team-oriented culture and have experience in successfully working with and developing a volunteer Board of Directors.
· You understand and effectively manage organizational finances and can objectively evaluate program effectiveness and alignment with the mission.
· You have developed strategic plans and cascaded goals into an organization, giving staff tools and resources to meet them, and you have created a culture of accountability for achieving results and a focus on meeting client needs.
· You communicate effectively with clients, staff, board members, external partners, federal and state agencies, and legislative representatives. Active listening and engagement are at the core of your communication style, and you are a strong public speaker.
· You understand the social services and legislative ecosystem and how to influence programs and policies to support our community needs.
· Non-profit human services and/or community action program experience is preferred.
· Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent relevant experience); master’s degree preferred.
· Ability to travel and work flexible hours as needed.
· Ability to pass DCPs background check.

Responsibilities of the Executive Director:
· STRATEGY AND PLANNING: Works in coordination with the Board of Directors, DCP management and staff, and with community partners and key stakeholders to develop short and long-term goals and strategies to achieve DCP’s mission and vision.
· STAFF MANAGEMENT AND WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT: Develops a strong leadership team built on trust and respect, implements strong human resources and organizational development programs and policies to attract and retain staff.
· BOARD MANAGEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT: Works effectively with the Board of Directors to provide timely financial and program reporting and partnering on board development to ensure that the board can effectively fulfill its oversight and governance role.
· FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT: Develops annual capital and operating budgets, monitors and reports results, and adjusts as needed to support long-range goals and annual objectives.
· PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT: Analyzes program outcomes and effectiveness to ensure fiscal responsibility and alignment with mission and program objectives. Oversees all programs and operations to ensure compliance with DCP internal policies as well as state, federal and local regulations.
· RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT: Ensures that the organization has a strong resource development function to support financial strength, increase financial resources, and nurture community relationships and strategic partnerships in support of fund-raising efforts.
· OPERATIONS AND INFRASTRUCTURE: Ensures that the organization has the tools and resources to effectively deliver and manage programs and services to clients and communities. This includes accounting, information technology, and facilities.
· COMMUNICATIONS AND PUBLIC RELATIONS: Acts as the official spokesperson and community ambassador of the organization. Represents DCP to its employees, clients, community organizations, the community, the public, and governmental bodies.
