Job Description
Laguna College of Art + Design invites applicants for an adjunct Liberal Arts Instructor beginning August 2024. The College is seeking a candidate who is willing to teach in an asynchronous online format but may be open to teaching in traditional, in person formats in subsequent semesters. The successful candidate will also be someone who demonstrates an understanding of the unique qualities necessary to teach in a small, art college environment. The College is located in an internationally recognized arts colony in Laguna Beach, California, and offers a diversity of majors in Animation, Graphic Design and Digital Media, Fine Art, Game Art, Illustration and Entertainment Design.
Course Description:
Business and Budgeting for Creatives
In the rapidly evolving world of creative industries, mastering the art of business and budgeting is crucial. This course is designed to bridge the gap between creative passion and business acumen. Through a blend of theoretical understanding and practical application, students will learn to navigate the financial aspects of their creative endeavors, from budgeting for projects to understanding the economics of the creative industry. This course empowers creatives with the knowledge to make sound business decisions, manage resources effectively, and sustain their artistic ventures in a competitive market.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide quality instruction according to the goals and objectives of the Liberal Arts + Art History department; conduct class sessions as scheduled.
- Prepare topic research, lectures, images, and course and lab materials according to recent scholarship and/or industry experience.
- Create, prepare, and submit department-compliant syllabi, daily attendance records, midterm, and final grades according to set deadlines.
- Teach asynchronously online.
- Meet with students (either in-person or online) during weekly office hours as required and according to established guidelines.
- Create and facilitate an environment that encourages free and open classroom discussion of topics, issues, ideas, and interests.
- Adhere to LCAD’s diversity, equity and inclusion policies.

Education
Terminal degree in Business, Finance, Production, Marketing or commensurate education and relevant industry experience.
Experience
A minimum of one year teaching experience at the post-secondary level (community college, 4-year college, or university) and/or relevant industry experience.
Licenses
Must have a valid U.S. driver’s license, maintain an excellent driving record, have a means of transportation, and carry automobile insurance coverage. Automobile insurance coverage must meet minimum liability insurance requirements for private passenger vehicles. Although not required, it is recommended to have the following insurance limits: Bodily Injury Liability Insurance coverage of at least $50,000 per person/$50,000 per accident and property damage liability of $5,000 per accident.
Position Requirements
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office
- Proficiency using Google Suite: Gmail, Calendar
- Familiarity with Learning Management Systems, such as Moodle, Canvas, or Blackboard, as well as prior use of Google email, Google Drive, Zoom, and/or similar communication/educational platforms.
- Knowledge and familiarity with image & research databases, smart podiums, projector use, iMac desktops, laptops, and adapters.
- Strong communication skills, organizational skills, and ability to prioritize deadlines.
- Awareness of, sensitivity to, and an understanding of a diverse community of students, faculty, and staff.
- A commitment to supporting LCAD’s diversity, equity, and inclusion program required.
- Excellent listening, written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills required.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team required.
- Must be self-motivated, focused, and proactive.
- Excellent spelling, grammar, and editing skills required.
- Must have the ability to multi-task and work in fast-paced, demanding environment.
- Experience in higher education required.
- Must be able to drive personal vehicle for business purposes and must pass DMV background check and have minimum insurance requirements as set by LCAD.
The successful candidate will also be able to perform the following essential functions:

Physical Essential Functions:
Sitting, typing, and moving from one place to another. This position takes place indoors in a campus environment while standing, walking around, sitting at a desk, and working in front of a computer.
Classification and Status:
This is a part-time faculty position
The individual in this position must reside within one of the following states: CA, OR, WA, IL, GA, NE, TN, MN, UT
Salary Range: $2,300.00 per unit per semester
Background Check:
The successful candidate will be required to undergo a job-related background check, inclusive of employment and education verification. Some positions may require successful completion of a post-offer agility test. Employment is contingent on satisfactory results of the aforementioned, in addition to compliance with requirements cited in this job description.
