As a central part of the university community, the mission of University Police is to contribute to and promote the greater mission of UNC Asheville by facilitating a safe, secure, and service-oriented environment for all students, faculty, staff, alumni, and visitors. They do this by offering crime prevention programs to promote safety and deter criminal activity. University Police officers conduct various law enforcement activities, including patrolling within the geographic jurisdiction, conducting criminal investigations, crime prevention, assisting motorists, parking/traffic control and providing security at special events.
Law Enforcement Officer Incentives Include:
- FREE Tuition to officers seeking to continue their education at any University in the UNC System
- 10% Night shift differential pay
- Fixed (non-rotating) Shifts (day, night, and split shifts) – staff will be assigned to a shift based on departmental needs
- Every other weekend off if assigned to patrol
- Uniform, boots, and equipment provided by the Agency
- Extensive training available for advancement/promotion
- Individual and family health plans
- Paid holiday (96 hours), sick (96 hours), and vacation (192 hours) annually
- State retirement, 401k plan, and law enforcement retirement
- $4,500 SIGN-ON BONUS
- Other incentives available
- Ability to prepare written reports of activities and incidents with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to act and direct the actions of others quickly and make informed decisions in emergency situations.
- Ability to maintain considerable working knowledge of modern policing principles.
- Knowledge of Federal laws and NC General Statutes.
- Knowledge of local ordinances and university policies.
