Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

To manage the day-to-day operational and administrative duties of the Special Services Unit, to include work management, contractual services management, financial accounting, payroll, HR, and customer support.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, facilities event management, or a related field. Note: relevant professional certification, college course completion, and/or additional higher education special services experience may be substituted for the required education on a one year of education and/or experience for one year of required education.

Experience:
  • With a Bachelor’s degree: Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience managing special events and services, including contract and project management, and two (2) years of supervisory or lead capacity.
OR
  • Without a bachelor’s degree: eight (8) years of experience is required. Additionally, at least four (4) years of the required experience must have been in a supervisory or lead capacity, preferably within an educational facilities environment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Exceptionally strong customer service and organizational skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are required to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization, with University students, faculty, staff and administrators, and contractors/vendors.
  • Ability to work well with a diverse customer base and employee population.
  • Ability to provide statistical interpretation of financial data from various sources.
  • Thorough proficiency in using office software packages (particularly word processing and spreadsheets), electronic mail, calendaring systems, and internet applications within a Windows operating environment.
  • Knowledge of business and human resources-related practices and processes; of public sector accounting and budgeting processes.

This position requires the ability to supervise events that occur outside of the normal workday/week, including evenings, weekends, and holidays (i.e. Maryland Day, University Commencements, July 4th celebration and Family Weekend-Homecoming).

  • Experience in managing moving services is desirable.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in related field is preferred
  • Spanish Language fluency is preferred (professional/business Spanish, both written and oral)

Additional Certifications:

Required:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Maryland Class C license (or equivalent) with fewer than six points.

  • The hiring range for this position is $66,584 – $83,230.

Physical Demands

  • Work will be performed in a variety of campus environments, both indoors and outdoors. Incumbent must be physically able to assist with the delivery, set up, and take down of tents, staging, lighting, tables, and chairs for a wide variety of special event venues. Must be able to focus, organize and use logical reasoning to arrange and manage logistics. Must utilize visual acuity, manual dexterity, and tactile sensitivity to drive, and discern nuances in/between color, texture, shades and/or similar items. May utilize arithmetic, geometric, and or spatial skill to measure, arrange and/or calculate. Must be able to focus, organize and use logical reasoning to arrange and manage logistics.
  • This position is considered essential, subject to a 24-hour per day, seven-day per week span of operation. Additionally, the incumbent will be responsible for working during campus closures and providing snow removal support during inclement weather.
  • The position may by hybrid-eligible.
