Journey Center (formerly known as the Domestic Violence & Child Advocacy Center) is a non-profit organization that fosters safety and healing for those affected by child abuse and domestic violence; and prevents abuse through education, advocacy and systemic change. We currently have a phenomenal opportunity for a motivated individual to become our next CEO. The person who fills this role will lead a team of talented individuals who take extreme pride in their work. You will be the leader of an organization that makes a difference in the lives of others on a daily basis. You will support your team and you will support the organization through outreach and fundraising efforts.
Essential Job Functions:
- Directs the day to day operation of the organization.
- Develops and revises strategic goals and programs for the improvement of the organization.
- Ensures that all reports required by governmental bodies are properly prepared and submitted as required.
- Work as a team with other agency personnel.
- Public speaking as necessary
Board Relations:
- Provides the Board of Directors with the information and assistance necessary to review, modify, and adopt the organization’s goal, policies and structure.
- Attends all meetings of the Board of Directors, Executive Committee and Standing Ad Hoc Committees except when personal issues of the Chief Executive Officer are under consideration.
- Assists in recruitment, orientation and development of new Board members.
- Assists Board of Directors in establishing effective organizational structure including appropriate Board Committees.
- Assists with planning agenda, prepares monthly report and maintains monthly file on Board business.
Fiscal:
- With assistance of CFO, Treasurer and Finance Committees, submits proposed budget to Board of Directors and ensures adopted budget is implemented.
- Supervises and monitors the recording and proper accounting of all income and expenses.
- Along with CFO, recommends necessary budget changes to Board of Directors and implements changes.
- Participates in the annual audit.
Development:
- Maintain knowledge of available resources both governmental and private.
- Participates in developing, monitoring and evaluating fundraising efforts including special events, annual campaigns and planned giving campaign.
- Provide oversight of development, submission and subsequent monitoring of all
proposals.
Public/Community Relations:
- Promotes a positive image of the mission and goals of the organization in the community.
- Establishes a positive and effective rapport with other agencies, organizations and coalitions.
- Assists the Public Relations Committee with creating of effective public relation strategy and materials.
- Provides community education through public speaking to groups, schools, churches, and the media.
Personnel:
- Ensures that the qualified staff are recruited, employed, trained and supervised to effectively conduct the programs of the organization.
- Provides leadership, motivation and development to staff.
- Ensures regular performance evaluation.
- Recommends to Board of Directors personnel policies, and structure necessary to attract and retain a competent workforce, and to ensure that those policies and structures adopted by the Board are effectively implemented.
Educational Requirements:
Master’s Degree and 2 years’ experience in administration of a not-for-profit agency or
Bachelor’s Degree and 7 years’ experience in administration of a not-for-profit agency.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics
- Must operate effectively as part of a team. Must demonstrate flexibility and excellent planning and organizational skills; must be able to manage multiple personal and team projects.
- Commitment to domestic violence prevention;
- Experience in hiring and supervising staff;
- Excellent communication skills, including grant writing, reporting and public speaking;
- Ability to respond to media in a timely and effective manner;
- Ability to motivate others to be effective team players, and
- Ability to initiate and complete multiple tasks on time.

Physical and Mental Demands
