Essential Job Duties

We are seeking a WordPress Temporary Developer to join our team. The ideal candidate will focus on building responsive pixel-perfect designs based on Adobe XD or Figma using WordPress Full Site Editing. You will collaborate closely with ITS – Digital Services Team to meet project deadlines and ensure seamless integration and performance. Additionally, you will work with the UNC Digital Accessibility Office to ensure all websites meet WCAG AA standards. 

Position: WordPress Developer
Mode: long term temp w/potential to apply for direct position with UNC through state site.
Team: the team, Digital Services,  consists of 4 (including the manager) and they oversee 7k sites and develop new sites, improve existing and support various administrators (users) of the sites via a ticketing system. The selected person will start here while they are learning the organization.
Profile: While there are solid coding projects at hand, the manager will welcome a post-grad with 2-3 years of experience. The selected candidate will need a solid grasp of WordPress to solve user issues, improve design, change styles, etc.

Other Work/Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain WordPress websites with a focus on pixel-perfect design implementation and write semantic well-commented code. 
  • Work with the ITS Digital Services team to integrate and ensure responsiveness and performance. 
  • Utilize WordPress Block Editor and Full Site Editing capabilities, using UNC Digital Services in house university theme. 
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to WordPress theme development and testing. 
  • Collaborate effectively with stakeholders and communicate clearly to ensure project requirements are met. 
  • Work with the UNC Digital Accessibility Office to ensure all websites meet WCAG AA standards. 
  • Write training documents for site owners. 

Minimum Experience/Education

Post-grad with 2-3 years of experience. The selected candidate will need a solid grasp of WordPress to solve user issues, improve design, change styles, etc.

Department Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a WordPress developer with strong HTML and CSS skills. 
  • Proficient in modern CSS techniques for performance optimization (Flexbox, Grid layouts) 
  • Advanced debugging and troubleshooting skills using developer console. 
  • Understanding of WordPress multisite setups, including full site editing capabilities, and proficiency in both the block editor and classic editor. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills/debugging and the ability to work independently or as part of a team. 
  • Excellent attention to detail. 
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders. 
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and resolving issues related to WordPress. 
  • Experience working with digital accessibility standards that meet WCAG AA standards. 
  • Extensive knowledge of WordPress plugins such as Events Calendar and Advanced Custom Fields, with an emphasis on minimizing plugin usage.
