Part-time 24 Hours week, No Benefits

Organization: A Non-profit Organization serving the blind and visually impaired, Lions Center for the Visually Impaired preserves vision, fosters independence and enhances the quality of life for adults in the East Bay who are blind or at risk for vision loss and serves as a trusted source of information and expertise on blindness in the community. Our services focus on early detection and intervention in order to prevent or slow vision loss from age-related eye disease. We also give older adults in the East Bay the tools and skills they need to maintain their health, independence and quality of life despite vision loss. Job Summary: Responsible for teaching orientation and mobility to blind, low-vision, visually impaired LCVI population. Conduct assessments and provide training on orientation and mobility techniques to support clients travel and mobility needs in-home, travel, work and community engagement.

Qualifications: Minimum Master’s Degree or BA in Orientation and Mobility (ACVREP Certified) or Master’s Degree and National Orientation and Mobility Certification (NOMC) from the National Blindness Professional Certification Board (NBPCB). Minimum of 2-3 years experience supporting clients with Orientation and Mobility. Additional skills teaching independent living skills in-home needed. Experience working with senior/aging population is preferred. Comfortable working with language translation apps a plus. Data and report management, outstanding written, verbal, and presentation skills, familiarity with maintaining databases, proficiency with MS Office 365 products. Passion and caring for supporting the needs of blind and visually impaired population with the goal of providing the highest quality of care and independence.
Accountabilities:

  • Perform intake and assessment of new clients in their place of residence. Make referrals where necessary.
  • Provide mobility training and information on available resources during home visits, working in coordination with Family members around clients goals.
  • Provide training in-home and out-doors.
  • Provide professionally-written assessments, goal development, summaries / recommendations for documentation.
  • Provide cane travel, route travel with dog guide users and teams and human guide instruction.
  • Keep clear and detailed client records daily, completing reports and other administrative requirements by the end of each month.
  • Participate in LCVI sponsored classes and facilitate support groups in assigned service location, and perform annual program evaluation of same.
  • Be aware of and develop opportunities for building client bases, and extending services throughout LCVI service area, and beyond.
  • Include family members in “human guide” instructions. Coordinate volunteers – train, place, supervise, and evaluate in-home volunteers in assigned service area.
  • May plan and provide training in independent living skills related to mobility.
  • Network with community agencies, other agencies servicing the blind and visually impaired.
  • Stay current in development of resources for the blind and visually impaired.
  • Contribute to marketing and public relations efforts of LCVI.

Compensation: The Lions Center for the Visually Impaired will offer a competitive salary of $27-29 per hour, based on experience. Part-time, 24 hours per week. No Benefits.
