Level B $119,231 - $141,581 p.a. plus 17% super  
Level C $146,050 - $168,403 p.a. plus 17% super

About the Role

You will join a multi-disciplinary team within the Mackinnon Project, providing veterinary clinical and farm consultancy services in the Production Animals area.  

The Mackinnon Project within the Melbourne Veterinary School is a leader in sheep and beef cattle health, livestock production and farm management, offering a unique range of consulting services to livestock producers and agribusiness including farm systems management animal health, livestock production and reproduction, pasture management and production, genetic improvement, farm economics and benchmarking, flock and herd clinical health services, contract research to agribusiness and government agencies and on-farm applied research directly relating to farm management and production, and post graduate training programs.

The position is based at the University’s Werribee campus but will be expected to travel to undertake farm visits, as well as attend other University sites from time to time. 

Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Participate in consulting and clinical services provided by the Mackinnon Group and Production Animals services. 
  • Provide excellent service to patients and clients, ensuring that clinical services meet the standards of national and international accreditation bodies. 
  • Conduct research and deliver against research objectives to meet project milestones and reporting schedule as well as fully immerse in the research culture of the Faculty. 
  • Prepare funding applications for group learning, consultancy and research projects, including proposals for corporate clients. 

Who We Are Looking For

Your interests and passion will drive leadership in livestock and farm management consultancy, farmer training programs, research, and postgraduate training programs in Australia and internationally. 

You will also have: 

  • An awarded Bachelor of Veterinary Science, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent degree enabling registration with the Victorian Veterinary Board. 
  • Relevant experience in clinical veterinary practice including experience with ruminant livestock. 
  • Proven knowledge of and experience in the Australian sheep and beef cattle industries, including management systems and pasture production. 
  • A demonstrated record or willingness to provide consultancy and advisory services to farmers, agribusiness and government clients and demonstrated investigative and problem-solving skills. 
  • Actively participate in the School’s DVM and other teaching programs, including the preparation and delivery of lectures, practical classes, and workshops. 
  • Actively contribute to the development and review of curriculum, and develop high-quality, innovative subject material.

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check.
