GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
The Staff Accountant’s primary duties are reconciling the various bank accounts, reconciliations for grants, student accounts activity, bookstore sales and inventory, and financial aid. In addition, this position is responsible for performing professional accounting work and assisting in preparing financial statements and various banking functions.
Requirements:STAFF ACCOUNTANT MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Reconciles the various ledger cash accounts to their respective bank statements.
- Understanding institutional, state, and federal policies, procedures, and restrictions.
- May serve as a project leader on special projects.
- In cooperation with the Financial Aid Office, requests federal student financial aid money.
- Prepares the journal entries accounting for state and federal financial aid.
- Reconciles state and federal student financial aid awarded to financial aid posted to student accounts and money received.
- Reconciles all activity related to grant funding.
- Maintains stock investments and gifts records and prepares entries for advancement office activity.
- Prepares recurring monthly journal entries.
- Maintains master lists of general ledger accounts and student billing transaction codes.
- Calculates prepaid expenses journal entries and bookstore accounting.
- Notifies the Director of Student Accounts of student EFT or ACH payments as necessary.
- Ensures compliance with generally accepted accounting principles in executing, analyzing, verifying, and reporting transactions of a fiscal nature.
- Prepares audit schedules as required by areas of responsibility.
- Prepares various reports for the Director of Accounting and other internal and external entities.
- Other tasks as required.
STAFF ACCOUNTANT QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/ABILITIES FOR THE JOB
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree significant in Accounting or Finance.
Experience
- Exposure to fund accounting and 1 to 3 years experience in accounting.
