Salary is determined per the SF Salary Schedule.

Under general supervision, the Adjunct Instructor, Criminal Justice will teach Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Basic Recruit Course (BRC) Law Enforcement and/or Corrections coursework within a classroom and high-liability setting, when applicable. Course offerings are taught during the day and evening and candidates are expected to have the flexibility to teach at different times throughout the calendar year.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Plan, organize, and deliver instruction in classroom and/or high-liability settings to promote student success within a college setting.
  • Support and promote the college and departmental missions centered on excellence in teaching and learning through quality instruction, curriculum enhancement, and service.
  • Collaborate with Associate Director, coordinators, staff, and peers to evaluate curriculum to cultivate the mastery of course content.
  • Strictly honor the privacy and security of student records and other sensitive information according to appropriate state, federal and college regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Provide students with frequent, timely assessment of and clear feedback regarding academic performance.
  • Appropriately document student progress and maintain records as needed.
  • Provide service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible and professional engagement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule

Reports to: Associate Director, Law Enforcement & Corrections Programs

Qualifications

Required: An active certification as a FDLE General Instructor along with at least three years as a certified Law Enforcement Officer or Corrections Officer, with a current certification, or separated in good standing as a Law Enforcement or Corrections Officer or equivalent.   

Additional Requirements:  A criminal background check will be conducted.

Preferred:  An active certification as a FDLE Instructor in one or more high-liability topic areas—Defensive Tactics, Vehicle Operations, Firearms, and/or First Aid—is preferred.

General Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

The Adjunct Assistant must have the ability to deliver a high level of interactive customer service, develop and maintain collaborative relationships throughout the organization, communicate effectively and possess proficient computer skills, including familiarity with the Microsoft Suite of Office Applications. The successful applicant must be willing to work a flexible schedule at multiple sites, as well as demonstrate the ability to work well with students, faculty and staff at all levels within a diverse, multi-cultural, collaborative environment.
