Position Details:

Peninsula College is recruiting for a part-time Nursing Instructor. The Peninsula College Nursing Program graduates students who exemplify ethical, caring, knowledgeable and technically competent nurses prepared to take the NCLEX and practice in a variety of health care settings. Nursing instructors will promote a positive and engaging learning experience; provide student support and other assistance as needed. Peninsula College Clinical Nursing faculty enjoy small class sizes and professional development support in a collegial environment that focuses on excellence in teaching and learning. The Nursing Program aims to support the retention and flourishing of diverse faculty.

Essential Functions:

• Teach clinical sections for the nursing program in a skilled nursing facility or hospital setting.  
• Facilitate simulation lab if qualified by experience. 
• Supervise preceptorship experiences.
• Teach face-to-face, lecture, hands-on laboratory and hybrid classes in accordance with course descriptions and learning outcomes outlined in the syllabi.
• Evaluate student learning activities and student achievement of learning objectives.
• Lead pre and post clinical conference for students.
• Conference with students individually to promote student success.
• Prepare course syllabi, course outlines and related instructional materials.
• Ensure that each student has been presented with the material to successfully meet the learning objectives of the course.
• Communicate with full time faculty and nursing director about student progress.
• Maintain professional competence and licensure through practice, continuing education, and professional activities.
• Applies the Guiding Principles to interactions with others and in accomplishment of job duties.
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Knowledge of and ability to comply with nursing education and practice WACs 246-800-500 through 246-800-830.
• Demonstrates strong critical thinking and clinical judgment skills.
• Demonstrate current evidence-based nursing practice.
• Demonstrate effectiveness as a nursing educator.
• Have preparation in teaching and learning principles for adult education, including curriculum development.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule on an as needed basis.  
• Ability to work with computers and technology to deliver or support instruction. 
• Demonstrate the ability to work autonomously, take initiative, and perform tasks in a timely manner. 
• Possess the characteristics of a team player and a desire to learn.
• Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Will exemplify excellent interpersonal skills. 
• Ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, clinical partners and student body.
• Demonstrate ability to organize and prioritize many different tasks. 
• Acts with minimal direct supervision. 
• Required to be a self-starter and extremely dependable.

Previous Experience:

• A minimum of three years relevant clinical nursing experience is required.
• Medical/surgical, emergency or critical care nursing experience preferred.  
• Intermittent need for maternal child health, long-term care or mental health expertise.
• Teaching experience in a formal or workplace setting preferred. 

Physical Requirements:

• Work is performed in classroom, lab and clinical settings.  
• Physical requirements include the ability to walk, stand, or sit for extended periods of time and demonstrate nursing skills in the clinical settings.  
• Must be able to lift 25 pounds. 

Work Schedule & Environment:

• Variable schedule: Clinical shifts occur between 6:00 am–9:00 pm, Tuesday and Wednesday.  Didactic and lab occurs between 8:00 am–4:00 pm, Monday–Friday.

Education or Certificates:

• Master of Science in Nursing is required.
• Active unencumbered Washington registered nurse license.

Employment Terms:

• Part-time position.
• Salary will be based on the part-time faculty salary schedule.
• Typical salary for a 5-credit class is $4,724.80 per quarter.
• Benefit upon eligibility governed by RCW 28B.50.489. WAC 182.12.11
