Postdoctoral Associate, Novel Learning Technologies in Manufacturing

Job Description

POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE, NOVEL LEARNING TECHNOLOGIES IN MANUFACTURING, Mechanical Engineering (MechE)-Learning Engineering and Practice (LEAP) Group, to help lead research and innovations in learning technologies for manufacturing education and workforce development.  Will take a leadership role in various projects, including the research and development of novel extended reality (XR) for learning STEM.  The vision is to create a suite of scalable, adaptive, personalized, interactive, learning experiences for knowledge and skills acquisition to prepare a diverse range of learners for future manufacturing careers.  The project’s goal is to prepare mechanical engineering students to address the advances and challenges of society and manufacturing in the decade.  Responsibilities will include conducting research to investigate the intersection of AI and AR/MR technologies with IoT and physical modeling to develop new cyber-physical systems that will teach learners psychomotor skills; pioneering high-fidelity product visualization, product teardown pedagogy, and AR/MR technologies to teach design for manufacturing and engineering analysis; researching digital twins of relevant manufacturing processes; combining technical considerations with insights from the learning sciences and human-computer interaction to create engaging and effective learning experiences; publishing and disseminating research findings in journals, at international conferences, and/or at industry events; facilitating residential and online learning experiences; showing leadership in a team setting in collaboration with faculty and group members under the supervision of the principal investigator; and performing other duties as assigned.  

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED:  Ph.D. in engineering that includes domain-specific expertise in manufacturing and simulations, digital twins, or XR technologies; ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment; excellent organizational and communication skills; and ability to work independently and build strong and collaborative relationships with teammates, faculty, and staff.  Job #24380

This is a one-year term appointment with the possibility of multiple extensions for terms of one or more years.
