Title:  Full-time Fire and EMS Training & Education Manager     

Department:  Workforce Development and Community Education

Supervisor:   VP of Academic Affairs

Position Summary:

In a learner-centered environment, this individual will be responsible for establishing, coordinating, and administrating the Fire and EMS non-credit program offerings through the workforce development and community education department.  The Fire and EMS Training & Education Manager shall be accessible to the instructors and trainees whenever the program is operating and shall assure the program’s compliance with applicable provisions of any codes, laws, or standards set by the state and/or federal requirements (ODPS).  This position requires a thorough understanding of all safety programs.  This individual must project a professional image and possess strong communication skills. Must be a detailed oriented person with excellent customer service and organizational skills.  Maintains program standards and integrity. 

Specific Responsibilities:

1.    Plan, implement, and evaluate the fire/safety Programs.

2.    Plan and develop course offerings.

3.    Plan and develop the implementation of and use of the fire building.

4.    Systematically evaluate all aspects of the program.

5.    Revise the program based upon evaluation results.

6.    Plan, organize, evaluate, and modify the fire curriculum as needed and as required.

7.    Maintain ongoing professional development.

8.    Serve on college committees as needed.

9.    Prepare course descriptions and course costs/fees.

10.    Orient adjunct faculty members.

11.    Teaches assigned classes, as required and as needed. 

12.    Revise the Fire Student handbook to aid the students in meeting course objectives.

13.    Recommend texts and other instructional materials to be used for instructional functions.

14.    Make recommendations for the hiring of part-time faculty.

15.    Facilitate the written and practical test components.

16.    Maintain student and program files per ODPS/national standards.

17.    Develop and implement a plan for student recruitment and placement.

18.    Student advising, scheduling, counseling, and consultation.

19.    Evaluate, recommend, and submit requisitions for library reference materials, pertinent instructional materials, and equipment.

20.    Develop and maintain professional contacts by attending conferences and actively participating in professional organizations at the local, state and national level.  

21.    Maintain academic standards and the integrity of the program.

22.    Perform any other duties as may be assigned.

Position Requirements:

a.    Current and thorough knowledge of fire education and safety, along with a demonstrated ability to perform the associated skills and build/develop curriculum are required.

b.    Capable of offering various certifications by possessing instructor credentials to do so.  

c.    Ability to work effectively with others. 

d.    Considerable experience in an EMS/Fire-Safety position in the community.

e.    Associate’s degree in related field, Bachelor’s degree preferred.  Certifications as necessary to work in the field. 

f.    Certification as an instructor/trainer in firefighting/EMS.

g.    Any equivalent combination of experience and education which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the assigned duties.

h.    Astute leadership skills.
