Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology (IMET) seeks to hire a Communications and Development Coordinator. This person will communicate IMET’s achievements within the University System of Maryland and to our stakeholders, including donors and members of the local community as well as the national and international scientific community. The Communications and Development Coordinator will nurture IMET’s existing donors and grow our network of donors, including individuals and foundations. This position will report to the Executive Director.

The duties of this position include: managing IMET social media; communication via the IMET website, including quarterly on-line newsletters that include video content; producing IMET’s Annual Report together with the Executive Director and Associate Director; writing proposals to foundations; pursuing fundraising opportunities with individual donors and foundations.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree

Experience:  
  • Experience with Microsoft and Google programs. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities in a high‐paced, high-output, mission-driven environment with little to no supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills and solution-oriented mindset.
  • Excellent communications and customer service skills, as well as the use of independent judgment, initiative, and excellent writing and editing skills.  
  • Ability to develop strong working relationships with high‐level officials and donors locally, nationally and internationally. 

Preferences:

Preferences
  • Three (3) years of experience in an upper level communications or development position is highly preferred. 
  • Some knowledge of public relations and scientific background is desirable. 
  • Experience with website editing, content management systems, and Adobe software is desired.

Salary range is $60,000‐$70,000. This is an exempt, regular position that includes a competitive benefits package, including State of Maryland health benefit and retirement programs. This position also offers a generous paid time off package (22 days-annual leave, 14-days-sick leave, 3 days-personal leave, as well as federal holidays.
