Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

This position assists with the overall operation and serves as a lead in the housekeeping program for assigned administrative and academic areas. The position will serve as the “lead worker” for assigned building(s) and provide operational support for a work group ranging in size from three to ten housekeepers. Position duties will include responsibility for performing the full range of housekeeping tasks for an assigned administrative and academic area.

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience:
One year housekeeping experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Skill in the use and maintenance of housekeeping tools and equipment. 
  • Ability to read, write, and perform arithmetic calculations; to operate assigned tools and housekeeping equipment; to work with chemicals and cleaning solutions; to understand and follow directions; to lift and transport supplies and refuse; to wear and work in personal protective equipment; to provide guidance and training to others.

Other:
Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Thorough understanding of the complete housekeeping Team Cleaning programs including all specialist tasks, staffing standards and priorities, team routes and schedules, equipment use and maintenance, and assigned responsibilities. 
  • Ability to read and write English. 
  • Also, a strong knowledge of project work including stripping and refinishing floors and specialty cleaning areas. 
  • Expert knowledge of campus housekeeping Team Cleaning methods, materials and equipment. 
  • Ability to operate all powered custodial equipment.
  • HS diploma or GED strongly desired.
  • 5 years of housekeeping experience is preferred.

Additional Certifications:

Must possess and maintain a valid class C driver’s license with fewer than 6 points.

Physical Demands

  • The employee must have the ability to perform the physical requirements of the position including the ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds; stand, walk and climb steps continuously; wear and work with the use of personal protective equipment (gloves, goggles, etc.) and to work in and around allergens such as dust and chalk. Must be able to operate all custodial equipment and train others in their safe operation.
  • Work hours are 4:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday – Friday
  • May be reassigned to work in different work zones throughout campus based on operational needs. Must be willing and able to change work zones. 
  • This position is considered that of an Essential employee, subject to a 24- hour day, seven-day week span of operation. The incumbent is required to come to work during emergencies and when the campus may be closed due to inclement weather. Will be required to perform snow removal assistance when necessary.
