Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

This position is a part-time staff position located at the SNAP-Ed state office in Columbia, MD. The Graphic Designer is responsible for design, development and production of print and electronic materials used in Maryland SNAP-Ed programming. The designer assists as a liaison with printers and other technical service providers; makes recommendations for purchases of equipment and software; and participates in the development of annual budget proposals to incorporate funding for graphic equipment or supplies.

Primary Duties:
  • Collaborate with Sr. Graphics Art Designer with the design and production process for print and electronic media. Collaborate with Maryland SNAP-Ed staff to plan the overall presentation of each publication and ensure a match among the content of text, intended receiver, and visual presentation.
  • Design and produce educational print materials for low income audiences including curricula, storybooks, displays, newsletters, signage, posters, etc., coordinating all pre-press production.
  • Assist with the creation of illustrations, charts, pictures and graphs to provide visual support to SNAP-Ed data and success stories, including required funder reports, and presentations given at state, national and international conferences that include graphical representation of data.
  • Generate specifications for competitive printing bids, assist in evaluating those bids, coordinate schedules with printers, inspect proofs, and perform press checks to ensure quality of finished product.
  • Lead design efforts on social media specific projects, and assist with projects related to video and website content production.
  • Research new visual trends and take leadership for implementing new design aids such as artificial intelligence resources.
  • Provide support and training to SNAP-Ed staff on visual methods and techniques.
  • Contribute as a team member of the SNAP-Ed State office and other duties as assigned by the project director.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design from an accredited college/university or a minimum of three years of experience as a Graphic Designer.

Successful candidates must obtain a clear background check by the State of Maryland and the FBI.

  • Experience designing materials for social media and web use.

Additional Information:

Salary range $61,120-$76,400.
