- Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Experience:
- At least two years of related professional experience in event management, program management or communications.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills with strict attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask, working on multiple events and priorities at different stages simultaneously.
- Proficiency in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to perform well under strict deadlines.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Ability to work with both internal and external stakeholders, including but not limited to employers, staff, faculty, students, alumni and vendors.
- A thorough understanding of event planning and management including logistics, budgets and event marketing.
- Proven ability to work independently and autonomously to manage tasks, events, programs and other projects.
- Team-oriented with the ability to work as part of a larger team to manage events, programs and other projects.
- Understanding of graphic design concepts to facilitate superior collaboration with the marketing communications team.
- Creativity to provide engaging experiences.
- Ability to maintain composure and ability to keep calm when under pressure to meet deadlines and deal with client changes.
- Ability to execute and maintain a flexible schedule to accommodate client needs. Limited travel may be required for annual conferences and regional events.
- High level of enthusiasm for and commitment to the University of Maryland and the Smith School.
Preferences:
- Knowledge of the Smith School program offerings.
- Experience providing administrative support.
- Experience in a higher education setting.
- Proficiency in event management and registration applications such as Cvent, EMS (Event Management Software), Social Tables, etc.
- Moderate project management background with experience utilizing Asana, Smartsheet, Monday or similar project management applications.
- Experience using Canva, Adobe Express or similar graphic design applications.
- Independent ability to research event industry language, trends, technology and systems and make recommendations.
