A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available immediately in the Department of Integrative Genomics and Epidemiology, School of Graduate Studies at Meharry Medical College.
This position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research focused on cardiovascular health and cancer.
The successful candidate will join the department’s research team as staff *, supporting Principal Investigators (PIs) in applying both conventional and machine-learning-based statistical methods to explore the complex interactions between genomic and socio-environmental factors that influence the development of diseases, including cardiometabolic conditions and cancer.

- This this is not a faculty position, nor does it provide a transition to a faculty role. This is an advanced postdoctoral position designed to support PIs within the department in their research efforts. The role is ideal for individuals seeking a data science or computational biology research position that is not faculty-focused.
Daily Operations
- Collaborate with the Principal Investigator to design and conduct research projects
- Mentor graduate students and junior researchers (provide technical guidance on data analysis, and manuscript preparation)
- Publish research findings (write, revise, and submit manuscripts for publication)
- Develop grant proposals (contribute to grant applications, and to the overall strategy for funding acquisition)
- Collaborate on interdisciplinary projects (integrate various types of data and methodologies)
Required Skills
- The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate strong scientific acumen, the ability to work independently, and the capacity to manage complex datasets, particularly in the context of trans-omics and epidemiological research.
- Interest will be given to applicants with the following skills and experience:
- A track record of publishing in respected journals and proficiency in scientific writing.
- Some experience in analyzing high-dimensional omics data, including genomic, epigenomic, transcriptomic (e.g. mRNA-seq, single-cell RNA-seq), and proteomic data.
Strong computational skills with experience in various software and programming languages, and familiarity with bioinformatics tools.
- Experience in analyzing large datasets within a cloud environment (e.g., 'All of Us', 'UK Biobank') is highly desirable.
Required Education and Experience
- Applicants must hold a PhD in Genetic Epidemiology, Bioinformatics, Data Science, Biostatistics or other related fields.
- The applicant can be non-citizen holding an appropriate visa; and must have had doctoral degree for less than 3 years.
