General Statement of Function: Responsible for the coordination and direction of all vocal music programs and performing groups.

Choir Director/Music Instructor

Location: East Mississippi Community College

Scooba Campus

Term of Employment: 9 months

Beginning Date: January 6, 2025

Salary: Commensurate with education and experience


 

Duties

 

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Directs, coordinates, and schedules all of the East Mississippi community College vocal music program activities which includes Reflections and the chorus;
2. Directs, coordinates, and schedules all other vocal performing groups as needed for specific functions;
3. Teaches college courses during the fall and spring semesters to include Music Appreciation, Music Theory and other courses, as needed, related to instruction;
4. Recruits students from throughout all six counties of the EMCC district;
5. Maintains and monitors the inventory of all vocal music equipment, sheet music, and uniforms;
6. Conducts the maintenance and care of vocal music room;
7. Recommends the awarding of vocal music scholarships;
8. Serves as an advisor and instructor for music majors;
9. Serves on faculty committees as assigned;
10. Effectively communicates with, cooperates with and supports other college personnel in daily activities.
11. Teaches all classes and labs as assigned;
12. Demonstrates a thorough understanding of the subject;
13. Communicates with students the goals, objectives, and expectations of the course;
14. Assigns learning activities which promote understanding of the course content;
15. Keeps accurate records of attendance and grades and submits all reports and other requested information promptly and accurately;
16. Maintains discipline in the classroom;
17. Attends faculty meetings and other required meetings as prescribed;
18. Meets all classes promptly and regularly and begins and ends class on time;
19. Participates actively in professional development opportunities in the discipline;
20. Maintains required office and class hours;
21. Serves as sponsor and advisor for student clubs and organizations as appropriate;
22. Supports the College mission implicitly and explicitly in the daily execution of all duties and responsibilities;
23. Actively participates in maintaining an effective and continuous recruiting program;
24. Participates in Institutional Effectiveness activities;
25. Represents the College in a professional manner as evidenced by dress, demeanor and the discharge of daily responsibilities;
26. Fulfills other duties as assigned by the President and/or supervisor.

 

Qualifications and Required Documents

 

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Music or a master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in Music
  • Two years experience in choral directing
  • Must have satisfactory criminal background check
  • Good work ethics, excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Evidence of success working with students, pre-college through higher education;
  • Successful teaching experience on the college level;
  • 18 or more graduate hours in a second teaching discipline.
