Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence & Security (ARLIS) – a University Affiliated Research Center (UARC) under the UMD Vice President of Research (VPR). ARLIS seeks to hire an Systems Engineering Specialist to support the Acquisition and Industrial Security (A&IS) Mission Area. We seek talented professionals who can work with a team to support the research, construction, implementation, test, documentation, and maintenance of socio-technical solutions that provide highly impactful capabilities for the special operations and intelligence community. Specifically, much of our work focuses on policy and implementation relating to manufacturing, data and knowledge engineering, model-based systems engineering, digital supply chains, and library science.
The Systems Engineering Specialist’s responsibilities include:
  •  Conducting systems analysis and research to support ongoing and new projects.
  •  Developing comprehensive written reports and briefing materials tailored for stakeholders and customers.
  •  Designing and modeling system architectures using model-based systems engineering (MBSE) principles to ensure efficient and effective solutions.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
  • Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or a Bachelor’s degree in one of those fields with at least three years of relevant work experience.

Experience:
  •  Demonstrated experience in systems engineering methodologies, including systems analysis, requirements engineering, and design synthesis.
  •  Proficiency in using MBSE tools (e.g., Cameo Systems Modeler, IBM Rational Rhapsody, or similar) for system architecture design and analysis.
  •  Proven experience in applying systems engineering principles to identify, analyze, and solve complex technical challenges in a multidisciplinary environment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  •  Strong communications, presentation, and writing skills

Must be able to obtain a U.S. security clearance. If selected, you must meet the requirements for access to classified information and will be subject to a government security clearance investigation that includes criminal and credit history checks, as well as verification of U.S. citizenship, birth, education, employment, and military history.

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Experience in implementing advanced MBSE techniques, such as model-driven development or integrating MBSE with other engineering disciplines (e.g., software, hardware) across the full project lifecycle.
  •  Possession of certifications such as INCOSE Associate Systems Engineering Professional (ASEP), Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) or Expert Systems Engineering Professional (ESEP).
  •  Hands-on experience in specific industry sectors such as defense, aerospace, automotive, or healthcare, where complex systems engineering processes are critical, providing a unique perspective and domain expertise.
  •  Active security clearance.

Additional Information:

Salary range is $58,656-$134,925.
