Full Job Description

Ohio Christian University is seeking a Director of Human Resources to assist the Executive Vice President of Finance and Operations by providing comprehensive leadership to the University on all Human Resources matters. The selected candidate will perform duties at the most professional and confidential level.

Title: Director of Human Resources

Supervisor: Executive Vice President of Finance and Operations

Employment Status: Full Time

FLSA Status: Exempt

Location: On site in Circleville, Ohio

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

(Any one position may not include all of the listed duties, nor do all of the listed examples include all tasks which may be found in positions within this classification)

  • Assist with implementation of employee relations programs/training resulting from personnel policies, grievance decisions, labor relations cases, or state and federal laws.
  • Support investigations of employee and supervisory complaints or concerns in the workplace and work to solve issues and maintain a productive work environment.
  • May participate in formal grievances/complaints involving employees under the terms of personnel handbooks or state and federal discrimination laws. May issue written decisions in collaboration with the EVP of Finance and Operations.
  • Develop, refine, implement and offer new employee orientation and training programs to University employees on a wide variety of topics including sexual harassment, employee assistance programs, etc.
  • Assist departments and search committees with the implementation of the University hiring policy including the recruitment, interview and selection process as assigned.
  • Assist departments and managers with the implementation of the University?s On-boarding program to retain and develop new employees.
  • Support efforts such as strategic planning, the development of goals and objectives, program assessment, etc.
  • Provide advice/guidance to all levels of the University community on employee matters.
  • Review and evaluate job descriptions and conduct job audits to determine proper employee group classification and proper compensation.
  • Draft new or refine current University policies and procedures in collaboration with the EVP of Finance and Operations and other University staff as necessary.
  • Conduct exit interviews.
  • Oversee compliance programs such as FMLA, FLSA, and IPED?s reporting.
  • Research, survey, and investigate data sources to verify that University initiative or projected activities are in keeping with state and federal guidelines.
  • Promotes and maintains responsive community relations.
  • Maintains current knowledge of trends and practices in the field through peer association, study, and review of literature.
  • Occasional overnight travel to meetings, conferences, and seminars.
  • Oversee administrative duties for HR inclusive of check requests, credit card statements, creating and maintaining personnel files, copying, setting appointments, performing background checks, etc.
  • Monitors and reviews employment postings and applications and forwards them to the appropriate department.
  • Responsible for HR department budget
  • Work closely with Payroll and Benefits Specialist and collaborate on employee matters as needed.
  • Plan and carry out events such as employee appreciation experiences and Employee Convocation
  • Performs other related duties as required.

  • Education, Training and Experience:
    • Bachelor?s degree required.
    • Management experience with employee relations

    • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; to establish positive public relations, and to interact effectively with a wide variety of people.
