Position Overview

Participate as a contributing member of the Software Bioinformatics team, where you will collaborate with Pipeline Technical Leads, Software Engineers, Infrastructure Leads, and Data Scientists. You will gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge bioinformatics pipelines, learning how to manage the orchestration, scalability, and regulatory compliance of production-level systems. You will have the opportunity to contribute to the development and optimization of these pipelines, playing a key role in the data analysis process that drives our products.

The intern will work on a variety of different tasks for BSDE related to code maintainability, exploring latest data engineering tools and workflows, and visualizations. Under the direction of senior staff, the intern may develop new program tools, data visualizations, web applications, reports and datasets as determined by the needs of the group.

Essential Duties

Include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Essential duties.
    • Contribute to the development of analytical pipelines and software requested Product Development and Computational Biology team.
    • Collect and document product and software requirements and findings from analyses and code developed and executed by themself and others.
    • Assist with the development of Python programs of medium to high complexity.
    • Maintain accurate documentation of programs and procedures.
    • Assist with the integration of software components into pipelines.
  • Soft skills which are required to perform the job.
    • Ability to integrate and apply feedback in a professional manner.
    • Ability to prioritize and drive to results with a high emphasis on quality.
    • Ability to deliver quality results in a timely manner.
    • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, rapid growth environment.

Scheduling requirements:

  • Ability to work designated schedule.

Physical requirements:

  • Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 90% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to work on a computer and phone simultaneously.
  • Ability to use a telephone through a headset.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in science, life sciences, computer science, or field related to the essential duties.
  • Preference giving to candidates with a record of outstanding academic achievement.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Salary Range:

$37,000.00 - $59,000.00

The annual base salary shown is a national range for this position on a full-time basis, and may differ based on the hiring location.
