Berkshire Community College (BCC) has the distinction of being the first community college established in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Job Description:
Position overview: Independent contractor position available at Berkshire Community College's Recreation Department. Position will lead the BCC Club Volleyball Program in collaboration with the Director of Recreation. The on-court duties are an important responsibility of this role, but are only an aspect of the position.
The BCC Club Sports program prioritizes academics. The Coach will work to support student success utilizing campus resources and tools available to ensure team stability and growth. The successful candidate will work with the Director of Recreation to identify cases where additional support is needed. Support "wholistic" student success through relationship building, mentoring and education. This position will ensure the enforcement of equitable standards and practices connected to college policies and regulations, motivate and support students with persistence towards completion
Responsibilities Include:
- Meeting with prospective participants
- Understanding & supporting the policies of Berkshire Community College Club Sports
- Structuring practices, game planning
- Leading the club during games and tournaments
- Communicating with club members
- Cultivating a club culture and treating all club members in a fair and equitable way
- Reporting issues with the club or its members to the Director of Recreational Services
- Being an advocate for BCC Club Sports
- Managing club team roster; travel arrangements for competitions
- Support recruiting of participants and marketing the club team
- Adhering to national governing body guidelines and college policies
- Uniform and equipment inventory
- Determining goals and next steps in collaboration with the Director of Recreation
Requirements:
Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalency required. No previous coaching experience is required, but is preferred. Playing experience at least at a high school varsity level is strongly preferred. Must be a clear communicator and have strong leadership skills. Clear understanding of the value of sportsmanship. Ability to work without direct supervision. First Aid/CPR/AED certifications preferred, may be obtained upon hire.
