Job Description

The malaria research laboratories of Dr. Stefan Kappe (https://www.seattlechildrens.org/research/centers-programs/global-infectious-disease-research/research-areas-and-labs/kappe-lab/) and Dr. Ashley Vaughan (https://www.seattlechildrens.org/research/centers-programs/global-infectious-disease-research/research-areas-and-labs/vaughan-lab/) at the Center for Global Infectious Disease Research (CGIDR), Seattle Children's Research Institute (SCRI), are recruiting two Postdoctoral Scientists to research on the human malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum.

 

Specifically, the successful applicants will carry out genetic crosses between different strains of the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum and then link phenotypes to genotypes with respect to infectivity for the mosquito vector, sporozoite infectivity of the liver, liver stage development and drug resistance. Both the Kappe and Vaughan laboratories conduct pioneering research on human malaria parasites with respect to understanding the driving forces behind life cycle maintenance as well as vaccine design.

 

This new research direction aims to uncover genes determining life cycle progression in the mosquito vector and human liver as well as understanding the evolution of antimalarial drug resistance. This position offers a great opportunity to work in a vibrant, collaborative, multi-disciplinary setting. The successful candidates will join diverse research groups and an outstanding mentoring environment. Enthusiasm for working with Plasmodium as a parasite of global health importance is a must.

Required Education/Experience:

- Ph.D. in microbiology or a related scientific discipline.

- Experience with tissue culture and working with animal models.

- Desire to work with a diverse team of scientists, including postdocs, students, and technicians.

- The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.

 

Preferred:

- Experience working with infectious disease models, especially malaria parasites.

 

 

Compensation Range

$65,478.00 - $98,571.00 per year

 

Salary Information

This compensation range was calculated based on full-time employment (2080 hours worked per calendar year). Offers are determined by multiple factors including equity, skills, experience, and expertise, and may vary within the range provided.
