The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships (OFAS) is committed to helping students achieve their educational goals by providing financial resources, guidance, and assistance to all UNT Dallas students. Through educational endeavors and student outreach, OFAS is a vital contributor to student success at UNT Dallas.

Position Overview

The University of North Texas at Dallas invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of Financial Aid. This is senior level administrative and professional work for the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships. This position is responsible for administrative and professional work managing assigned functional area(s) for the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships. This administrator is expected to make daily operational decisions independently and decisions which affect the office under the general supervision of the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships as well as facilitation of the Financial Aid Management System (PeopleSoft - Campus Solutions). This position will supervise student services personnel. The position works under the supervision of the Director and/or Associate Director of the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships.

Responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to: Assists the Director and Associate Director in planning, implementing, evaluating, and controlling assigned functions of the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships. Assists in implementing and evaluating all office procedures and policies to ensure compliance with all Federal, state and institutional guidelines. Manages and supervises processes and workflows for assigned areas and assigned programs. Maintains statistical data reflecting office activity as well as providing reports and analysis of program information for departmental leadership. Develops and updates user documentation for computerized systems; develops and implements training documents for software systems. Provides counseling and advice to students who have difficulty understanding the Financial Aid and Scholarship process, especially customer service concerns. Jointly shares responsibility for work performance evaluation of employees assigned to respective areas of activity (such as grants, scholarships, customer service, loans, etc.) Assists in managing the maintenance, retention, and digitization of records as required by federal, state, and institutional guidelines. Maintains a complete working knowledge of all policies, procedures, and regulations that affect financial aid administration. Observes safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed. Other duties and tasks as assigned by the Director and/or Associate Director.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field and four years of professional related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Considerable knowledge of fiscal policies, regulations, and financial aid programs of the University.
  • Leadership skills and the ability to plan and direct large scale projects and assignments.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to supervise, train, and plan the work of subordinates.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Knowledge of safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five or more years of progressive responsibility within a Financial Aid Office in a college\university setting.
  • Making presentations in multiple group settings.
  • Data reporting and analysis.
  • Strong customer service experience in multiple settings.
  • NAFSAA Credential(s) in any subject area.

Job Duties:

  • Manages and supervises multiple assigned teams and their corresponding workflows; including assisting with the management of workflows across all teams in the department.
  • Manages the daily operations of multiple programs within the department and how they interact with various on or off campus stake holders.
  • Manages the departments training\retraining activities for federal and state programs to ensure departmental compliance.
  • Assists the Director and Associate Director with the writing, review, and implication of policies and procedures.
  • Monitors, collects, and analysis data on departmental programs and team performance; makes recommendations to department management regarding trends, pain points, etc.
  • Manages all customer service aspects for the department and serves as the next level regarding customer complaints\issues.

  • Monday - Friday 8:00-5:00
  • On-campus
  • Occasional extended hours in peak times
