Job Description
Rate of Pay: $16.85/hour USD
The bartender will be responsible for the service of guests, prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to guests courteously and efficiently according to hotel specifications. Maintain stock, supplies and cleanliness of Banquet bar and equipment.
- Maintain complete knowledge of service requirements for assigned function
- Liquor brands, beers and non-alcoholic beverages ordered.
- Particular characteristics/description of wines/champagnes ordered.
- Prices for specified bar selections.
- Designated glassware, ingredients, preparation method and garnishes required.
- Group name, type of function and expected attendance.
- Scheduled hours of service.
- Special requests/arrangements.
- Location of bar in function room.
- Order of service.
- VIP's.
- Maintain complete knowledge of astrict abide by state liquor regulations, particularly those prohibiting service to minors, intoxicated persons and drunk driving.
- Maintain complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment; use equipment only as intended.
- Maintain complete knowledge of Micros and manual systems.
- Obtain assigned bank and ensure accuracy of contracted monies. Keep bank secure at all times.
- Complete opening side duties:
- Check quality and set up of designated bar stock and supplies by using checklist.
- Requisition all necessary supplies.
- Transport supplies from storeroom to bar set-up area.
- Stock ice.
- Prepare garnishes.
- Stock glassware and paper supplies.
- Prepare mixes.
- Check condition and cleanliness of blender, shaker, and other tools.
- Greet guests and take their orders, utilizing, suggestive/up selling techniques.
- Input orders into system; legibly document orders when system is down.
- Ensure that all cash bar drinks orders from Servers and accurately rung into the Micros system or collect drink tickets before giving drinks.
- Prepare all drink orders for guests according to specified recipes.
- Provide club service for designated beverages.
- Serve drinks to guests in accordance with departmental standards.
- Collect tickets where specified.
- Issue, open and serve wine/champagne bottles; collect payment/tickets where specified.
- Anticipate guests' needs, respond promptly and acknowledge guests even where busy.
- Use a jigger to ensure proper pouring procedures.
- Maintain positive guest relations.
- Be familiar with all hotel services/features and local attractions/activities to respond accurately to any guest inquiry.
- Handle guest complaints following the instant pacification procedures and ensuring guest satisfaction.
- Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation and organization of bar top, tables, and service areas.
- Assisting with wine and beverage service at the dinner tables
- Assisting w/dinner food service
- Remove soiled wares from bar top and tables and place in designated area.
- Anticipate and communicate replenishment needs promptly, ensuring no shortages throughout scheduled function time. Ensure proper authorization for additional payments as required prior to replenishing.
- Clearly communicate last call at designated closing time to guests, Banquet Supervisor and servers.
- Transport bar unit with all supplies and equipment from function area to designated area and breakdown the bar in accordance with departmental procedures.
- Adhere to all cash handling and credit policies/procedures.
- Legibly complete bottle transfer slips and distribute accurately.
- Legibly document designated items on the spill sheet.
- Ensure maximum usage of all supplies to attain budgeted cost and to prevent waste.
- Use all chemicals in accordance with OSHA regulations and hotel requirements.
- Complete closing side duties:
- Properly store all reusable goods in designated areas.
- Empty and drain ice bin; clean sink.
- Wipe clean all surfaces of bar and bottles; clean all bar equipment and tools.
- Secure all liquors, beers, wines, coolers, cabinets, and storage areas.
- Remove trash.
- Successful completion of the training/certification process.
- Assist with weekly/monthly inventories. (When Needed)
- Follow maintenance program and cleaning schedule.
- Assist in other bar areas as assigned.
- Legibly document maintenance needs on work orders and submit to Manager.
- Complete all closing reports in Micros system as needed when a cash bar is being used.
- Count bank at end of shift complete designated reports and drop receipts in secure bank.
Qualifications
Requirements are representative of minimum levels of knowledge, skills and/or abilities. To perform this job successfully, the incumbent will possess the abilities or aptitudes to perform each duty proficiently.

- Minimum of 21 years of age to serve alcoholic beverages.
- 2 year(s) experience as a bartender or bar back.
- Food handling certification.
- Ability to satisfactory communication in English with guests, management, and co-workers to their understanding.
- Ability to provide legible communication.
- Ability to compute basic mathematical calculations.
- Ability to understand guests' needs.
- Ability to access and input information into Micros system.
- Ability to be well organized, maintain concentration and think clearly when preparing drinks and providing service to guests within any given period of time.
- Ability to focus on details.
- Ability to exercise good judgments in determining potentially intoxicated guests.
- Ability to maintain good coordination while preparing and serving orders quickly.
- Ability to exert strong physical effort in transporting cases of liquor and beer kegs from storeroom to assigned workstation and transporting bar to/from assigned function room.
- Ability to endure abundant physical movements throughout the work areas.
- Ability to perform job functions with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team.
- High school graduate.
- Certification in alcohol awareness program.
- Certification of previous training in liquor, wine and food service.
- Certification of CPR.
- Fluency in a foreign language, preferably English.
