Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Director of Student Health Services and Wellness is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing Student Health Services and Wellness programs, operations and activities addressing the physical, social, and mental health needs of students and the college community at both campuses. This includes the screening, assessment, diagnosis and treatment of health conditions, prevention programming, and health education.  In addition, provides strategic direction for the management of student health services contractual partnerships, counseling services, wellness education and advocacy, as well as coordinates and directs communications, services, resources and information to meet student health needs; supervises and evaluates the performance of assigned staff.  
 
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
1. Ensures compliance with college, stated, and federal standards and requirements governing health & wellness services.
2. Develops and manages department budget, ensuring efficient use of resources.
3. Design, implement, and evaluate health promotion programs and initiatives.
4. Deliver health education workshops, seminars and presentations on topics such as nutrition, stress management, sexual health, substance abuse prevention and other related health issues.
5. Provide direct clinical services, including assessment, treatment, and referral for students presenting health concerns. Collaborate with local and regional healthcare providers as needed.
6. Develop and implement protocols for responding to medical emergencies and crisis situations on campus. Serve as liaison with local healthcare facilities and emergency services.
7. Foster partnerships with campus departments, community organizations, and healthcare providers to enhance the delivery of health and wellness services.
8. Collect, analyze, and report data related to student health outcomes, program effectiveness, and utilization of services.
9. Recruit, train, and supervise staff, including nurses, counselors, health educators, case managers, and personnel within the department.
10. Performs other related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.

Qualifications/Certifications/Licenses/Skills

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Public Health or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in nursing, public health or related experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership or management role. 
  • Current valid Registered Nurse (RN) Practitioner License in the state of Texas.
  • Current CPR, first aid and automatic external defibrillator certification issued by an authorized agency
  • Must have a valid State Driver’s license.

 
Preferred:
  • Master’s degree in Nursing, Public Health or related field.
  • Experience working in a community college or educational setting.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong ability to lead and manage, foster collaboration, and build partnerships.   
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.  
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products software. 
  • Knowledge of Public Health laws, codes regulations governing health and wellness services.
  • Knowledge of industry trends and best practices in health and wellness services.

Physical Requirements  
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit.  
The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch.  
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
