Wytheville Community College is seeking an Administrative Assistant for the HR/Payroll Office. This position will be responsible for the office management of the HR/Payroll Office.

Some responsibilities are but are not limited to the following:
  • Greeting all visitors to the HR/Payroll Office;
  • Providing assistance to employees completing documents;
  • Understanding basic state of Virginia benefits to be able to provide accurate answers to employees;
  • Keeping all files up to date to meet the audit requirements of personnel files;
  • Purchasing supplies for the department and entering recruitment costs into the EVA system;
  • Managing state training through the Virginia Learning Center (VLC) state site on topics provided in the learning center;
  • Helping with the recruitment process;
  • Reconciling leave balances through the VCCS HCM system;
  • Preparing Orientation packets monthly; and
  • Providing support to the office with special projects.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.


KSA's/Required Qualifications
  • Experience and/or education equivalent to an Administrative Support Technology degree or other related degree;
  • Excellent customer service skills;
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently on tasks;
  • Ability to provide a high level of confidentiality with personnel information that comes through the HR/Payroll Office;
  • Willingness to accept additional responsibilities when asked; and
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products.

Additional Considerations
  • Human Resources and/or payroll experience; and
  • Higher Education HR and or payroll experience.
