About the Department

The Office of Real Estate & Development (RED) serves as the real estate development and services group for North Carolina State University. RED oversees the acquisition, leasing, management and disposition of real estate assets for the University and its endowment and affiliated foundations. RED also oversees the planning and development of Centennial Campus and the Centennial Biomedical Campus and is responsible for the development and execution of placemaking activities on NC State’s Centennial Campus.

Essential Job Duties

The primary purpose of this position is to assist in the management of placemaking and outreach efforts in furtherance of the mission of NC State University’s Centennial Campus. The position contributes to the ideation and is responsible for the execution of placemaking programming and events. This position requires maintaining relationships with stakeholders internal and external to the institution and collaborating with partners to enhance the sense of place on Centennial Campus, all in furtherance of a positive reputation for NC State, and maintaining and enhancing Centennial’s market position as a dynamic ecosystem for academia, industry and beyond.

Duties include but are not limited to the following:
  • Contributes to the development of long-range placemaking plans and strategies for Centennial Campus, including the development of an annual master calendar of Centennial Campus programs that guide the department’s operations for the year. Has a clear understanding of how the annual program plan supports the mission of Centennial Campus, and ability to articulate the program’s value and importance to customers and stakeholders.
  • Serves as the main program contact for planning, oversight and execution of a wide range of programs and special events for Centennial Campus Placemaking in alignment with the annual master calendar of events. Responsible for troubleshooting day-of event logistics to ensure program continuity.
  • Possesses a clear understanding and knowledge of relevant university and department policies related to the Placemaking program. Interprets and applies policies appropriately to program related activities advising clients and collaborators on appropriate actions to be in compliance with policies and standards.
  • Tracks the progress of implementation of the placemaking programming activities, makes adjustments to program logistics to respond to changing dynamics while meeting the overall strategic objectives of the program.
  • Demonstrates a clear understanding and interest in urban dynamics and placemaking principles
  • Identifies best practices to resolve non-routine issues regarding event coordination and implements solutions to problems and processes/procedures in a manner that takes into account near-term and long-term implications of decisions.
  • Serves as a liaison and builds consensus between the university, event producers, citizens, university departments, and tenants for outdoor events on Centennial Campus, ensuring the appropriate execution of programs in alignment with relevant policies and service standards.
  • Utilizes technology systems to obtain and track all applicable paperwork and ensure they are completed and on file prior to events.
  • Serve as on-call or on-scene contact for non-Centennial Campus Placemaking special events that require response from Centennial Campus resources and/or otherwise impact the ecosystem.
  • Initiates and reviews agreements/contracts with third-parties, invoices and check requests for speakers, instructors/facilitators, and third-party vendors as it relates to the execution, production, and promotion of events. Provides reporting on event-level expenditures to inform department level financial decision making.
  • Participates in partnership meetings with local governments, county government, nonprofits, businesses, community organizations, and other entities, taking meeting notes and assisting in the development and dissemination of materials.
  • Collects data on events to include attendance, site assessments, and overall impacts on the surrounding area. Analyzes data, and develops reporting. Makes recommendations for program enhancements, ensuring “lessons-learned” are incorporated into future program planning activities.
  • Drafts and develops documentation of procedures and protocols for program creation and execution in support of business continuity efforts.
  • Collaborates with other placemaking team members to create and disseminate marketing material and social content for events that drives engagement, and enhances the Centennial Campus Placemaking identity.
  • Works with customers/clients to ensure that event-specific marketing and communications are in alignment with the broader brand and identity strategy of the Placemaking program.
  • Provides direction to vendors/contractors in conjunction with program execution.
  • Supervises the work of interns and/or temporary event staff, as program requirements dictate.

Minimum Experience/Education

Bachelor’s degree; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
 
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

  • Self-starter who can anticipate project needs and communicate proactively
  • Experience with placemaking in an academic, research, urban or entrepreneurial environment.
  • Knowledge of event planning, logistics, production, and management ,including relevant experience and hands-on involvement with large event production.
  • Ability to deliver programs within the established budget
  • Strong professional knowledge of MS Office, databases and information systems.
  • Will be required to work weekends for events as necessary.
