Our team is looking for a Senior Civil Engineer to help support our growing team in our Power Delivery group. The ideal candidate will have experience completing designs relating to California bridge and utility design and assisting in project / construction management overseeing construction activities and contractors. A key aspect for the role will be to provide technical advice for Design and Constructability to key stakeholders to help manage the risk associated with underground utilities throughout the lifecycle of a project. The new hire will work directly with clients and have the opportunity to expand capabilities of the team with support from other NV5 organizations.

This position is based in NV5's San Diego, CA office. This role may require travel at times.

Responsibilities
    Lead the design and execution of civil engineering projects, ensuring solutions align with client requirements, industry standards, and regulatory guidelines while delivering high-quality results.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a team of engineers and designers to foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous professional growth.
  • Manage and resolve complex technical issues while providing expert guidance and support to project teams.
  • Execute complex assignments related to planning, designing, and preparing construction documents for projects.
  • Design various structural systems including retaining walls, sound walls, culverts, underground vaults, and conduit supports.
  • Prepare plans, specifications, and estimates.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies.
  • Support business development efforts by contributing to project proposals, cost estimations, and client presentations to secure new work for the team.
  • Continuously evaluate project execution processes and methodologies by identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing best practices across the team.
  • Act as a technical liaison between the project team and clients.
  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes to inform project strategies and maintain the highest level of technical expertise within the team.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in California is required. SE license is a plus.
  • Minimum of 5-8 +years of experience in civil engineering.
  • Proven expertise in the engineering and design of projects in the industrial or energy industries.
  • Local experience within San Diego, CA and/or Northern, CA, including work with local agencies and/or Caltrans.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant design and modeling software preferred, including AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, RISA 3D, MFAD, and LPILE.
  • Experience in managing projects, including budget tracking, scheduling, and quality control.

The pay range for this California position is $115,000- $125,000 per year; however, base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience of the candidate. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
