Danville Community College developed from two institutions, Danville Technical Institute and the Danville Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute opened in 1936 as Danville Textile School, becoming Danville Technical Institute just after World War II. The Danville Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute first began as an engineering division in 1946, and was later expanded to include the first two years of course work for all engineering, business administration, liberal arts, and science majors. Beginning in the summer of 1966, all programs taught by Danville Technical Institute were brought under the Virginia Department of Community Colleges. Effective July 1, 1968, the Danville Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute merged with the existing community college providing the comprehensive programs now offered.

The Early College program serves as a dual enrollment program, where students take DCC college classes while still enrolled in high school in order to earn an Associate’s degree at the time of high school graduation. The program allows greater college access to students in this diverse region, many of whom are underrepresented in higher education, and allows them to do so in a convenient and supportive environment. This position will work closely with the partnering high schools to provide support and oversee the administrative duties required for program success. This position will also work with Dual Enrollment students and their parents as the students transition to DCC for post-secondary enrollment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

This position will have a comprehensive knowledge of all college policies and procedures, including the application, enrollment, placement, and orientation processes for dual enrollment/early college and incoming students and will also understand the administrative procedures for registration and enrollment functions within the DCC Student Information System (SIS).

Specific responsibilities and functions include:
  • Provide programmatic support for Early College, dual enrollment, and concurrent courses.
  • Coordinate with the Coordinator of Dual Enrollment and Early College, Academic Deans, faculty liaisons and high school administration on Early College/DE course and program offerings.
  • Work with high schools to submit attendance for Early College students.
  • Provide clear and consistent communications, letters, brochures, and other marketing materials to promote the Early College dual enrollment program.
  • Manage Early College related College documents involving high schools, students, and faculty.
  • Handle administrative data entry into SIS and Navigate systems and all record keeping of course offerings, rosters, student qualification data, and grades for Early College /dual enrollment courses.
  • Serve as the liaison between the local high schools and DCC administration, academic divisions, student services, and marketing/outreach and build relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Work with academic deans and academic advisors to provide DE orientations and summer bridge programs for Early College/ DE students and Early College/DE instructors annually.
  • Participate in Early College/DE informational events at the high schools as needed.
  • Work with Early College/DE students and their parents on transitioning to DCC for post-secondary enrollment, including advising for program completion while in high school.
  • Participate in high school recruitment and registration events.
  • Assist Enrollment Services Staff with general admissions and enrollment processes.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Experience in a higher education and/or high school environment.
  • Commitment to the community college mission.
  • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds, interests, and abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic student environment and with a diverse student population.
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Outstanding organizational skills.
  • A focus on student and program success.
  • Experience working in an office environment.
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Office and Google applications.

  • Experience in higher education, student services, or a related field.
  • Experience in a community college setting.
  • Experience coordinating programs with multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience with dual enrollment programs/students.
  • Experience with Student Information System (SIS), preferably Oracle/Peoplesoft.
