LOCATION
Palo Verde College is located in the City of Blythe at one of the busiest entrance points to California. The college is located in a desert oasis adjacent to the beautiful Colorado River and the Palo Verde Valley. Blythe, and the fertile Palo Verde Valley, is primarily a farming and ranching area. Boating, fishing and hunting attract many tourists. The Palo Verde Valley is centrally located between Phoenix and Los Angeles, Las Vegas and the Mexican border. The valley’s great climate, with more than 350 days of sunshine and mild winters, attracts thousands of winter visitors every year.
NATURE OF THE POSITION
Under the direction of the Child Development Center Director, or designee, the Instructional Aide assists the staff in supporting the growth and development of children at the Child Development Center. Responsible for assisting in the planning and implementation of developmentally age-appropriate curriculum and assessing the growth of children enrolled in the program. The Instructional Aide position involves working closely with the teachers to create an environment that promotes learning, social interaction, and growth.Examples of Duties
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assists in planning and delivery of instructional and activities in relation to interest centers, arts, crafts, and project preparation
2. Assists the instructional team with special needs students.
3. Assists in classroom management and discipline, storytelling, puppet activities, party preparation, operating instructional equipment, parent meetings, maintaining circle time discipline; and participates actively in all activities, both indoors and outdoors.
4. Assists in the preparation of instructional materials
5. Works with individual and small student groups.
6. Assists in supervision of student activities involving use of restrooms, escorting on field trips, pick-up or clean-up periods, lunch procedure, snack time, play periods, arrival and departure of pupils, etc.
7. Fosters a safe, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment that encourages exploration and creativity.
8. Responsible for classroom in absence of regular teacher.
9. Communicates effectively with children, parents, and staff to build positive relationships and ensure collaborative care.
10. Supports the development of social skills through guided play and group interactions.
11. Operates a variety of classroom equipment and appliances
12. Participates in preschool workshop activities and staff meetings.
13. Assists in the preparation and up-to-date maintenance of the attendance register.
14. Assists the cook with preparing and serving nutritional snacks and meals in the classroom.
15. Assists with first aid in the Center.
16. Assists with the cleaning of classroom
17. Observes and document children's progress, providing feedback to the lead teacher as needed.
18. Assists in maintaining a clean and organized classroom, including the setup and breakdown of activities and ensuring materials are properly stored.
19. Demonstrates a strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility principles in all aspects of job performance; actively promotes and creates a welcoming and inclusive environment.
20. Performs other related duties as assigned.Educational/Experience Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. High school graduate or GED.
2. Ability to work with preschool age children.
3. Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
4. Ability to work harmoniously with children, parents, and other Center employees.
5. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
6. Ability to abide with the laws on mandatory reporting of child abuse and neglect or suspected abuse or neglect.
7. Ability to work different shifts when needed.
8. Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, ethnic, racial, age, national origin, religious, gender, sexual orientation, disabilities, and socio-economic backgrounds.
9. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid First Aid Certificate issued by an authorized agency.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Experience working in a childcare center.2. Attendance in college classes or workshops on Child Development/Early Childhood Education.3. Children’s Teacher or above center permit.

CLASSIFICATION/SALARY
1. This is a substitute classified position. May include evening and weekend duty.
2. Row 1 on the Part-Time Hourly Classified salary schedule.
