The Political Science department within the Business, Communication Studies, and Social Sciences division offers many transfer courses (Intro to Political Science, Intro to US Government) but also has courses in International Relations and Foreign Policy. Courses are currently offered in both hybrid and online modalities. This position will teach two on-campus class each quarter (Fall, Winter, Spring). In addition to teaching a 2/3 load, this position involves non-instructional duties.

 

Qualifications

 

Required Education and Experience
  • Master's degree in Political Science or closely related field of study
  • Teaching experience in higher education
 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Imparting excitement and enthusiasm into the instruction of Political Science
  • Fostering a climate of equity and belonging through multicultural awareness and responsiveness the use of inclusive teaching practices and diverse representation in course materials
  • Knowledgeable of effective teaching practices, including how to structure and support collaborative learning
  • Adapting to a variety of teaching situations with students from diverse backgrounds/abilities
  • Experienced teaching online, including familiarity with instructional technologies for course management
  • Developing/modifying curriculum both collaboratively and independently
  • Communicating clearly and effectively with students and with individuals at all levels inside and outside the College
  • Working and interacting effectively with colleagues, staff, students, administrators and others of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Managing tasks within competing deadlines, and contributing to team projects

 

Conditions of Employment

 

Physical Work Environment:
The College is currently in mixed (both in-person and online instruction) operations, with the option for some assignments to completed in an online environment based on program or area needs. For remote (online) instruction, faculty will need to provide their own workspace and internet access, noting the College will provide technical equipment and support for online work needs. For on-campus in-person instruction, work is usually performed in a classroom/office space that requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time. Faculty typically use computers and media equipment in the work environment.
 

Term Of Employment/Salary:
  • Pro-Rata 80% of full-time load, non-tenure track academic position
  • 172-day annual contract beginning September 19, 2024
  • Salary placement determined by the number of qualifying years of teaching/work experience combined with the level of the related degree attained at an accredited institution
