The Office of Global Engagement (“NC State Global”) advances the university’s internationalization efforts through the development and ongoing support of strategic partnerships with institutions abroad and through the provision of critical infrastructure, support services, and campus programs here in Raleigh. Our office serves as the primary liaison with international offices at partner universities to expand student/scholar mobility, integrate international perspectives into NC State’s academic programs, and create new pathways for research, outreach, and professional development.

NC State Global is seeking an experienced professional to oversee its communications and marketing efforts, enhance its visibility, and create relevant content. This role offers a unique opportunity to promote global learning and highlight the impact of our international initiatives for a broad range of stakeholders. The ideal candidate will be motivated by the chance to collaborate with colleagues from varied academic, cultural, and professional backgrounds, and engage in a variety of marketing and communications activities. This position reports to the Vice Provost for Global Engagement.

Essential Job Duties

Description of Work Responsibilities
  • Strategic communications plan. Develop and implement a strategic communications plan that embraces the role of NC State Global in advancing our institutional mission and excellence and highlights international initiatives and achievements for our faculty, staff, students, and partners.
  • Content creation. Create original content to promote NC State Global. Plan, research, and write articles for the website and newsletter. Conduct in-person and Zoom interviews with NC State and international collaborators where appropriate.
  • Website. Maintain and enhance the NC State Global website and social media presence. Build traffic and audience. Curate, repurpose, and integrate content. Seek opportunities to improve website structure, content, and functionality.
  • Newsletters. Prepare and disseminate monthly newsletters to multiple audiences (faculty, staff, students, partners, and alumni).
  • Events. Support in-person and virtual events with promotional materials, invitations, displays, etc. Examples include partnership conferences, in-person seminars, webinars, and honors/awards gatherings.
  • Campus networks. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with communications and media colleagues across campus to amplify NC State Global stories, coordinate communications efforts, and learn/share best practices. Represent NC State Global at university-wide communications meetings and coordinate the internal communications working group for NC State Global units.
  • Digital assets. Expand and curate the library of digital images and graphics to be used in promotional materials and reports. Focus on authentic, ethical photos from faculty, staff, students, and global partners. Manage inventory of communications templates, logos, marketing collateral, promotional materials, etc.

Other Responsibilities

  • Other Duties as Assigned. Collaborate with the NC State Global leadership team to produce annual reports and promote international funding opportunities for faculty and staff across the university, and other projects assigned by the Vice Provost for Global Engagement. May supervise student communication assistants as needed.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Ability to work as part of a team that values brainstorming and collaboration, as well as the capacity to work independently and take initiative. Willingness to experiment and innovate.
  • Strong organizational skills. Ability to effectively manage numerous projects. simultaneously and in various stages of development. Must be productive, flexible, and able to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent writing, storytelling, and editing skills.
  • Experience in graphic design, Canva, and video/photo software. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and/or Google suite.
  • Experience working with email marketing platforms and content management systems
  • Knowledge of industry trends for effective use of social media.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in English, communications, information, business, public relations, other related fields.
  • Five years of professional experience in marketing, communications, or related fields.
  • Experience working across cultures or in an international setting, including an understanding of how to adapt communication styles across different cultural and linguistic contexts.
  • Experience working in a higher education environment.
