Job Title- FACULTY-RESPIRATORY CARE
Position Status- Full Time
Classification Title- Faculty-12 month
Work Location- Main Campus-3600 N. Garfield, Midland, TX
Job Summary- The faculty member is responsible for teaching courses and labs in the Respiratory Care program. The faculty member will provide leadership, guidance, and appropriate learning experiences for Respiratory Care students.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Respiratory Care from CoArc-accredited institution
- Minimum of two years’ experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist
- Hold a valid Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential and maintain it throughout employment
- Hold a current license for professional practice as an RRT in the state of Texas and maintain throughout employment
- Knowledge of subject matter and equipment appropriate to field of Respiratory Care
- Knowledge of basic computer applications required for instruction and clinical practice
- Ability to communicate effectively, both written and oral
- Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with staff at clinical sites
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s license, good driving record, and be insurable on Midland College’s insurance policy
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a related field
- Minimum of two years experience teaching in an accredited respiratory care program either as an appointed faculty member or as a clinical preceptor
- Experience in curriculum development, instruction, evaluation, program, and course assessment
- Experience with student and academic support services
Essential Functions
- Fulfill faculty roles and responsibilities as outlined in Midland College Faculty Handbook
- Teach classes and labs with a lecture equivalent hour (LEH) requirement commensurate with the program curriculum. Summer instruction is required.
- Provide access to students through adherence to posted office hours and effective use of Canvas and electronic communication
- Serve on departmental, division, and college-wide committees as requested
- Participate in graduation and other official college functions, as required by the division dean, Vice President of Instruction, or Provost
- Contribute to the College and community through self-selected service activities
- Adhere to philosophy and purpose of Respiratory Care program
- Maintain open lines of communication with faculty, staff, clinical affiliates, and students
- Serve as an ambassador of the Respiratory Care program in community-related activities for student recruitment and college program promotion, i.e. Career Days, Health Fairs, etc.
- Participate in the program advisory committee
- Participate in recruitment and retention of Respiratory Care students
- Demonstrate responsibility to the teaching discipline and the profession by participating in professional development activities as outlined in the Midland College Faculty Handbook
- Demonstrate professional behavior during all workplace activities both on-campus and off-campus instructional sites
- Participate in the preparation of reports for state agencies and/or accrediting bodies, as assigned
- Maintain inventory of respiratory equipment
- Maintain Respiratory Care practice lab
- Develop and implement curriculum and evaluate courses to ensure alignment with accreditation and industry standards
- Organize, develop, implement, continuously review, and enhance assigned courses to ensure effectiveness of teaching methodologies
- Maintain a well-managed learning environment across instructional locations or modalities
- Provide leadership, guidance, and support to students
- Develop course syllabi, objectives, and teaching plans for assigned courses
- Develop instructional materials, including audio/visual materials, for assigned courses
- Develop and implement evaluation and assessment methods to measure mastery of course objectives
- Keep records, including but not limited to communication, attendance, and grades, as required by Midland College policy, Respiratory Care policy, and CoArc.
- Identify at-risk students and employ early interventions to promote student success
- Continually improve the quality of instruction by reviewing and utilizing best-practice instructional methodologies and delivery techniques
- Determine appropriate patient care assignments for students
- Organize and assume overall responsibility and liability for direct patient care assumed by students
- Act as a liaison with clinical facilities
- Make clinical assignments for students and organize clinical conferences
- Assist students with care plans, procedures, documentation, etc.
- Integrate classroom instruction with clinical practice
- Evaluate student learning and behavior in the clinical area
- Maintain competency in respiratory care practice
- Keep records, including but not limited to communication, attendance, and grades, as required by Midland College policy, Respiratory Care policy, and CoArc.

Physical Demands
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
- Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time
- The person in this position needs to occasionally move or drive to other locations on and off campus
- The person in this position needs to occasionally travel to clinical sites
- Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation
- Use of manual dexterity
- The person in this position frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
- Frequently moves boxes or equipment weighing up to 30 pounds
- Duties indoors and some outdoors
- Office, classroom, simulation laboratory, and clinical setting with common related bodily fluids present
- Able to ambulate to supervise students in the clinical area
- Ability to work extended hours and attend Midland College or community events
Security Sensitivity- All Midland College positions are security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code §51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. An employment offer is contingent on completion of a satisfactory criminal background investigation.
Min Salary- $67,742 per year
Max Salary- $82,793 per year
Pay Statement- Salary is commensurate with educational qualifications and experience.
