The Department of Food, Bioprocessing and Nutrition Sciences (FBNS) is seeking applications from highly dynamic and motivated individuals to serve as the Food Science Summer Scholars Program Coordinator. The coordinator plays a crucial role inorganizing and overseeing all aspects of the program, providing valuable experiences and mentorship to aspiring food science scholars. The responsibilities of this position are mostly concentrated in the spring and summer months, where there will be the opportunity to make a significant impact on the next generation of food scientists.

- Conduct interviews with prospective applicants to assess their qualifications, passion for food science, and commitment to the program.
- Collaborate with the faculty advisor to review applications and select the most suitable candidates for the program.
Scholar-Faculty Pairing:
- Work closely with faculty to identify their current research projects and match scholars with research opportunities aligned with their interests and skill sets.
- Facilitate effective communication between scholars and faculty to ensure a productive and engaging research experience.
Summer Housing Arrangements:
- Coordinate and arrange suitable housing accommodations for the selectedscholars during the duration of the program.
- Liaise with campus housing departments to secure comfortable and convenient housing options.
Industry Partnership:
- Collaborate with food industry partners to organize and arrange tours focused onfood science principles, such as food safety, product development, and quality control.
- Communicate with industry representatives to coordinate tour schedules, logistics, and ensure a valuable learning experience for the scholars.
Travel Arrangements:
- Coordinate travel arrangements for the scholars to attend the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) conference in Chicago.
- Arrange transportation, accommodation, and registration for the conference, ensuring a smooth and enriching experience for all participants.
Program Administration:
- Develop and maintain an organized database of budgets, applicants, faculty research proposals, industry partners, and other relevant documents.
- Prepare and distribute program-related materials, including schedules, guidelines, and informational documents to scholars, faculty, and stakeholders.
- Serve as a point of contact for program-related inquiries and provide timely and
accurate information to all involved parties.

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating leadership and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient computer skills, including proficiency in Google Suite and database management.
