Job Summary

The Admissions Specialist is a key, front-line representative for the College who provides exemplary customer service to its external and internal customers. The specialist interacts with students and the general public by providing information at the Concierge desk. The Specialist supports the Admissions departments and assists students with enrollment-related questions.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate Degree or equivalent (60 college credits); or High School diploma or equivalent and two years of clerical and general office experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the College’s mission and the needs of students
  • Knowledge of general office equipment
  • Demonstrated computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and Outlook
  • Strong organizational and public relations skills
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Must be energetic, enthusiastic, and team-oriented
  • Must be able to handle a fast-paced work environment with interruptions and detail-oriented tasks

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree
  • Experience working in a student services area in an educational setting
  • Data entry and document imaging experience

Essential Functions

  • Welcome a varied student and community population
  • Coordinate walk-in traffic, including identifying student’s enrollment status, providing students with the appropriate forms, and directing the student in accordance with admission and enrollment processes
  • Perform class audits for lab/lecture match and co-requisite and prerequisite requirements
  • General office duties, including telephone communications, electronic filing, emailing, and interacting with the public
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of the College’s instructional programs, student services processes, events, and off-site facilities
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume volume, and confidential environment by multi-tasking and with frequent interruptions
  • Communicate accurate, comprehensive, and timely information to students, potential students, and visitors
  • Use computers and related software for word processing, spreadsheets, and database management
  • Practice exemplary customer service skills when interacting with the public, students, prospective students, and colleagues
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
  • The person in this position needs to move to other locations on campus occasionally
  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation
  • Use of manual dexterity
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
  • Frequently moves boxes or equipment weighing up to 20 pounds
  • Duties indoors and some outdoors
  • Ability to work extended hours, including weekends, during periods of registration, and attend Midland College or community events

Security Sensitivity

All Midland College positions are security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code §51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. An employment offer is contingent on completion of a satisfactory criminal background investigation.
