Essential Job Duties

We are seeking a Carpenter to join our team. This role involves various carpentry tasks, including drywall installation, ceiling systems, flooring, cabinetwork, and countertop installations. A basic understanding of renovation trades, tools, and safety standards is required, along with general knowledge of other trades. The ideal candidate will work within our trade shops and be an integral part of maintaining and managing over 2,240 acres within our campus.

Key responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Assist with drywall installation, ceiling systems, flooring, cabinetwork, and countertop installations
  • Work on metal or wood stud wall systems
  • Perform trim work, hang doors, drill and set door hardware, and set windows
  • Remove walls, install partitions, and alter rooms or add to existing structures using hand and power tools
  • Use machines, tools, instruments, equipment, and materials associated with various carpentry tasks
  • Perform accurate measurements and finishes for carpentry work
  • Assess safety conditions regularly, identify potential hazards, and communicate them to supervisors
  • Implement accident prevention and corrective measures in work-related areas
  • Communicate with customers to improve service delivery based on their feedback, relaying information to Supervisor

Minimum Experience/Education

High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Optional Guidelines: Experience in the Trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Ability to set priorities and carry out work in a timely manner
  • Ability to coordinate work schedules and projects with coworkers
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of contacts to include coworkers, contractors, tradesmen, vendors, customers, building occupants and other University personnel
  • This position is expected to perform all work within state, local and University codes and safety guidelines and procedures
  • A positive and professional attitude must be maintained at all times. Must have the ability to professionally and appropriately problem solve and address the concerns of that particular client or customer

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in commercial carpentry

Required License or Certification

  • Must have valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to obtain a valid NC Driver’s License withing 60 days of hire and must be maintained
