TEMP - Transition Navigator

Job Description

Position Summary

The transition navigator assists adult education staff with supporting student’s transitional needs while receiving adult education services. The transition navigator, in collaboration with Adult Education staff, will identify and connect students to support services and activities to ensure successful transition into postsecondary education/workforce training and/or employment. The transition navigator assists both adult English Language Learners (ESL) and GED/NEDP graduates in the identification of career or college goals and provides intentional support of transitioning learners.

Reports to: Director I, Adult Education

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Follows-up with GED and High-level ESL classes utilizing individual and group career exploration coaching.
  • Engage with instructors and students in classes to promote and assist with enrollment in career exploration, workforce, credit, and other career pathways.
  • Assist with ENGEN entry and reporting for transitioning students to promote career-specific vocabulary and bolster student success.
  • Collaborate with the Instructional Specialists to create and administer a student interest survey aligned with workforce offerings.
  • Meet virtually or in person with students ready to transition for one-on-one support.
  • Assist students in using graduation scholarship and connecting with CSM team members such as financial assistance, admissions, advising, and workforce development staff.
  • Coordinate with adult education instructors, CSM advising enrollment talks, distribute schedules, and attend classroom visits.
  • Disseminate information from CSM and community partners on upcoming job fairs, hot jobs, information sessions, and open houses.
  • Collaborate with Adult Education staff to track and report transition data to the Management Information Specialist for LACES reporting.
  • Create standard operating procedures of this position for future position development.
Additional Duties:
  • Performs other related work as required.

Minimum Education and Training

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. 

Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Adult education teaching and/or advising experience preferred. 
  • Fluency in Spanish preferred.

Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required

  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong technology skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Flexible schedule, some evening hours may be required.
  • Ability to work at all campus locations.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work is light work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in a relatively safe, and secure work environment.
