The Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics (DARE) embodies excellence in research, teaching, and extension in the economics of agriculture and the economics of natural resources and the environment. Dedicated, student-focused faculty teach diverse courses and nurture industry connections to help students pursue rewarding careers. Researchers engage students in relevant, applied research. Extension specialists and associates conduct research-based education and training activities that benefit local and global communities.
ARE offers undergraduate major and minor programs in agricultural business management and a concentration in biological sciences business management within the agricultural business management program. At the graduate level, the department offers a Master of Science degree and a Master of Economics degree, and a Ph.D. degree in economics. These instructional programs are enriched by faculty members with extension and research activities which contribute to the relevance and thoroughness of the teaching program.
ARE is part of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, which conducts outstanding research, teaching, and extension programs and plays a vital role in North Carolina agriculture, food and fiber systems, environmental quality enhancement, and economic development. ARE is housed in Nelson Hall along with the Poole College of Management (PCOM) on the North Carolina State University (NCSU) Campus in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Essential Job Duties
The Department of Agricultural & Resource Economics at North Carolina State University is seeking a dedicated educator for a full-time teaching position at the rank of Lecturer to take a lead role in the Department’s Agribusiness Entrepreneurship Program. This nine-month, non-tenure-track position is a recurring fixed-term position with benefits. The Agribusiness Entrepreneurship Program includes an undergraduate Minor in Agricultural Entrepreneurship and an Agribusiness Clinic in which students and faculty undertake entrepreneurship and other business projects sponsored by businesses and other institutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach six courses/sections per academic year (August-May), including:
- ARE 270: Entrepreneurship I
- ARE 370: Entrepreneurship II
- ARE 470: Entrepreneurship III
- Entrepreneurship IV (currently offered as a special topic)
- Additional courses may include:
- ARE 395: Agricultural Sales
- ARE 412: Advanced Agribusiness Marketing
- ARE 404: Advanced Agribusiness Management
- Provide academic advising to students pursuing the Agricultural Entrepreneurship Minor and the Agricultural Business Management major.
- Engage in collaborative opportunities for summer employment, grant projects, and work within the Agribusiness Clinic.
- Join the leadership team responsible for managing the Agricultural Entrepreneurship Program.

The successful candidate must be able to independently travel to various locations without relying on pre-arranged transportation services.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Master’s degree in an Entrepreneurship field, or related field.
- At least 5 years of Entrepreneurship experience.
Other Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to teach is imperative.
- Must have the ability to communicate orally and in writing and the skill to be an effective teacher in the classroom or other public forums.
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctorate degree in an Entrepreneurship field, or related field.
- Prior teaching experience and agribusiness experience.
Required License(s) or Certification(s)
- Valid NC driver’s license or the ability to obtain within 60 days of start.
