About the Department

The Dairy Education Program Associate is a member of the Dairy Enterprise System of North Carolina State University, in the Food, Bioprocessing, & Nutrition Science Department.

The Dairy Enterprise System is a commodity-based operational unit consisting of the Dairy Education Unit (part of the Lake Wheeler university farm system), the Department of Food Science Dairy Processing Plant and university retail operations that are dairy product-based. The individual units have the purposes of Teaching, Research, Extension and the production of high quality dairy products to the university, state hospitals and correctional facilities meeting mandatory nutritional requirements at system-wide cost savings. Retail business units are in operation or planned that are part of FBNS Dept., the university dining system or a joint operation.

Essential Job Duties

The Dairy Education Program Associate plays a crucial role in the Dairy Enterprise System at North Carolina State University.This position is instrumental in supporting the mission of NC State and The Dairy Enterprise System by assisting the Dairy Education Coordinator in planning, executing, and evaluating effective educational programs. These programs include educational tours of the dairy farm and new initiatives to enhance understanding of dairy farming and the dairy industry. This position will be working with minors for tours and camps.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Dairy Education Coordinator in the planning, execution, and evaluation of educational programs.
  • Coordinate established programs, including dairy farm tours, camps, and scheduling activities related to agritourism and education
  • Maintain business accounts and records for tours, camps, and other activities.
  • Provide excellent customer service, addressing and resolving basic issues.
  • Train students and temporary employees working at the museum or as tour guides
  • Will be responsible for overseeing the Randleigh Dairy Heritage Museum
  • Document all tours and groups visiting the museum and farm
  • Ensure safety and compliance for all guests and employees on the farm
  • Coordinate schedules, manage communications via email, phone, text, and in-person interactions, and ensure that all guests receive the promised information and attention
  • Record-keeping of financial reviews with Dairy Enterprise System leadership
  • Respond to inquiries from potential tour guests and others interested in learning about dairy farming
  • Develop and deliver engaging and educational experiences that cater to diverse audiences
  • Draft and revise policies or procedures as needed, ensuring clarity and alignment with organizational goals
  • Create and deliver presentations for offsite informational sessions, effectively engaging and informing diverse audiences
  • Generate monthly reports and share them with Dairy Enterprise Management.

Minimum Experience/Education

Bachelor’s degree; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
 
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Strong verbal communication skills, comfortable speaking to large groups.
  • Experience in customer service and problem-solving.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Agritourism, teaching or related areas
  • Basic business and record-keeping skills.
  • Experience with dairy farming and the dairy industry
