Description

The Ralph O’Connor Sustainable Energy Institute (ROSEI) in partnership with the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (ChemBE) at the Johns Hopkins University (JHU) is inviting applications from outstanding faculty candidates at all levels for a tenure-track position in areas of chemical and biomolecular engineering. Candidates with interests in sustainable chemical transformations and fuels, clean energy harvesting, storage and conversions, carbon capture and utilization, or other energy/sustainability related areas are particularly encouraged to apply. Applications from both experimental and computational backgrounds are welcome. This recruitment is a part of a university-wide effort on building up a strong research cluster in energy and sustainability.

ROSEI is a university-level endowed institute with 17 core and over 70 affiliated faculty (energyinstitute.jhu.edu).  This position provides an opportunity to develop a world-class program in chemical transformations for sustainable energy as part of this interdisciplinary Institute, whose purpose is to place JHU in the forefront of research and policy to support the energy transition. The position is one of several faculty to be hired into ROSEI. Appointments are expected to be made in the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Department. The search committee includes representatives from several departments within the Whiting School of Engineering and the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences.

ChemBE is highly collaborative with an established track record of national leadership and developing new disciplines within chemical and biomolecular engineering.  The Department has large, vibrant educational programs at the undergraduate, master’s, and Ph.D. levels as well as post-doctoral level. In addition to its role in this initiative together with ROSEI, the department is a leader in other major research centers and institutes at Johns Hopkins, including The Institute for Nanobiotechnology (INBT), The Data Science and AI Institute, The Institute for Data Intensive Engineering and Sciences (IDIES), The Hopkins Extreme Materials Institute (HEMI) and The Materials Characterization and Processing (MCP) Facility.  Faculty also collaborate frequently with scholars in the Whiting School of Engineering, the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Bloomberg School of Public Health, and Applied Physics Laboratory at Johns Hopkins.

Qualifications

A Ph.D. is required, but we will accept applications from doctoral students expected to fulfill Ph. D degree requirements by May 2025.
